I love going into Japanese stores. Everything looks so put together, but what to do with French rock salted lemon wedges for $12.45??????!!!!!!! and whoa... that cantaloupe! lol! If that was the first thing I saw, I'd run out fast.
Ho, da prices! I think I would rather stick one fishing pole in da water and wait. ; )
I wish I would have fished more growing up in Hawaii. Just down from my house was Black Point. And it had the perfect wall to go out and walk on to go fishing. Also the spear fishing there would have been awesome. I used to go snorkeling there and so many good fish all around!
I could have walked home with good fresh fish for dinner every day after school! I guess I thought it was more fun to go surfing after school.
j: hoo you travel so far and wide for yard sales, yeah? Even I don't go to Kapolei and I'm closer than you. Kapolei and Ewa's neighborhoods all look the same, I'd only go during the day never after sundown, it's like going in circles as every street and house looks the same. I was glad to hear about the Hot Pot...the few times I've been in Kapolei none of the food looks like something I wanna eat so I just go to the well known fast food spots. When I was selling my last car, I was going back and forth to Kapolei to get my car ready. Mililani has a monthly Eat the Street and after going a few times, it's always the same vendors, too expensive food and nothing special. Most of it just food that's being warmed so not as hot and sorta dried out. There are Filipino regulars who make the best malasadas I ever had. I think it's $5 or $6 for half a dozen. Not oily and sooooo fresh.-N
Susan, I wondered the same thing about the lemon . . . what would you use that for? But I totally would love to taste it. And that cantaloupe too! How could it be worth $71???
Mark, my son always loved to go fishing and diving. His second grade teacher loved to eat fish and Landon would bring her some of his catches in an ice cooler. She marveled at how a 7-year-old could put dinner on her table. He was so proud of that.
So funny, N, because I was in Kapolei once one night and I really was going in circles. Thanks for your feedback on Eat the Street. Now I don't feel so bad that we decided not to go.
Jalna, I found a video of the very place I was talking about at Black Point. I've played here since little kid time!
Most people do not even know this lovely spot even exists. You can see the walls that you can walk out on to go fishing. I think was all built by the home owners before WWII. It looks like it was made for a boat docking and swimming area with the steps going down. Very unique for Oahu.
CQ- okay.. so why is the ootoro $28 and the melon $71?? I just went to get a small order of ootoro last night at a restraunt that comes with 6 pieces.. and that was $3o-somethin. So that whole tray is a good deal for me!! Thats why i say.. all my work 'OT'pays for my Ootoro fix.. OT = Ootoro! As for the melon..Eat pinapples instead. lol
thanks for today

$71 for a cantelope!!!!! HOLY MOLY!! I didn't even see that.....yikes
really pricey!
It does feel like a Japanese store. Did you buy the melon or the tray of otoro?
One day I'll take you there, Dd.
It was on the top shelf in the 'fridge section, Les. Had several! I wonder who gets to eat um if/when they don't sell.
For sure, Kat!
No, I neva, Craig, but I was tempted to get the otoro for Wendell.

Cool Mark! I'm at work right now (shhhhh). Gotta check it out later when I get home.
Are you for reals $71 for a cantaloupe and $12 for a bag of salted lemon?
Are there people who would actually buy those products at that price?
No way right, Mmiissee?!!
I don't know I can spend $71 for a cantaloupe but I will buy the Tokachi custard!
That's a very expensive mellon.
