Coworker Connie gave this to me. Her uncle brought it from Japan. I had to look it up online. Mitsumame is a traditional summertime dessert made of fruit and kanten (agar-agar).
It came with a pack of Kuromitsu (literally "black honey", dark sugar syrup). It took me awhile to decipher what it said on the pack. It says something like: Be careful not to cut your hand on the corner of the "film". Open the "film" so as not to scatter. After opening please enjoy right away.
I did what it said, although I did "scatter" a bit.
oooo, uncle R makes this every summer with fresh watermelon although I don't think he puts the anmitsu, but he adds little mochi balls (shiratama?) it's my favorite! v
j: they sell this in a can, I think it must be Times or Longs cuz mom buys it often. Also Marukai as green ones in the refrigerated case by the bentos. Bought mom one last week in a plastic container that she mixed together and used the plastic to store-N
It's sweet like fruit cocktail, Les. I wouldn't bring um back from Japan, mostly because you can find it here, and I don't think it's worth the poundage added to your suitcase.
My favorite summer treat when I was glowing up! I ate it outside because kuromitsu is sticky. Ha ha ha, you're very good following the instruction, so cute!
thanks for today
