I've been on high blood pressure medicine for I-don't-remember how many years now. I'm pretty consistent in taking daily readings, and lately my pressure has been really low, sometimes falling below 100 for the top number.
I talked to my doctor about it and told her that I sometimes get lightheaded. I'm not sure if it's my weight loss (still only 5 pounds), my daily walks, my attempts at meditation, or the recent change in my diet. Maybe it's all of the above.
She told me to cut my dose in half for now and to continue monitoring. I wonder if it'll be possible for me to get off the meds someday.

That would be great if you were off meds!
You're asking good questions and doing a nice job of monitoring. Write down the date your half dosing started, and all of your readings. Keep working with your doc. Some folks, like in-control diabetics, usually can't stop their blood pressure meds, but can change to the lowest dose.
Love your blog, Linda in Kansas
Wow! That’s low, but good for you to be able to lower it. I think you can be taken off of it, she should let you try for a time period without the pills to see if the lifestyle changes you have made is effective on its own.

J, I hope you get off meds
I read once that once you start on hypertension meds you can't get off. Didn't say why though. My BP remains high after a certain time, meds wear off and doc has to switch it around. Add/remove meds. Right now on 4 daily. However you get off of them, I hope you stay off
I noticed for me dietary changes bring more of a (lower) change than weight loss.I lost the 50 lbs. but no impact on BP. Good Luck!! -n
definitely gotta watch, sometimes medicine amount is too much after you lose weight.
That's great news! And you are definitely moving in the right direction, keep it up!!
Same here, I take daily BP readings. That's a nice reading below 120. The other day my top number was 94, I wasn't worried because I was doing deep breathing when my previous reading was 135. My doctor says the bottom numbers are what's important. Obviously, if the top number is over 200 I would be concern. I normally take 2-3 readings. My mother had high blood and its on her side of the family. I'm blessed not to be on meds. Continue what you're doing; keep your weight down, your walks, meditation and low salt intake.
Aunty, I'm hoping my new-found love of overnight oats will help lower the cholesterol. Only thing . . . I eat it with lots of fruits.
DrumMajor, thanks for the tips!
Izsmom, crossing fingers.
N, thank you!
Kat, I will.
Jenny, the weight loss is sooooo slooooow. LOL.
Chet, I get freaked out when my top number is in the 90's. Great that you're not on meds. Thanks for all your tips.
