Facebook

I closed my Facebook account. A scammer emailed me and said that he knew my password. And he did. Bothers me that he got ahold of my password somehow.

He said that if I didn't send him $2000 bitcoin he would reveal all my immoral secrets. Luckily, I have no immoral secrets. As you know, I barely have secrets. I tell you guys everything.

I hardly ever use Facebook, so it's not worth the worry to me. So I changed my password (just in case) and closed the account.

Hey Jalna, totally unsettling. Same exact thing happened to me about passwords and accounts, they had a very old password of mine and it was in the email and scared me! I looked into it further and one article said it was linked to an old hacking years ago that exposed passwords...I had since changed all my passwords anyway and it made sense because the hacker's email contained my super old password. You're right though, not worth the worry.

Izsmom, so sad yah.

Jenny, yes it was a very old password. But it makes me wonder about the security of personal information on Facebook. You would hope that such things are safe. They apparently are not.

I closed my personal account (I think) but kept open my Honolulu Aunty account just because business coaches have said to keep my "branding" open. However I never really knew how to use Facebook and its business pages and then I don't really have friends so maybe I should close that one too. With all this security breaching going on with Facebook, I wonder why they are so dominant in the stock market (part of the FAANG top flying stock companies) and how they make money. So confusing and scary.

I'm glad you're okay. Its amazing what these hackers, scammers, scum bags can do. I personally, stay away from social media platforms. I remember when passwords were 6 letters/numbers. Then, it had to 8 numbers/ letters (upper and lower case) and special characters. Now, for some accounts its minimum of 12 letters (upper/lower case), numerical and special characters that has to be changed every 120 days. Such a hassle. The worse part of it, is that it shouldn't be written down. How in the hell am I suppose to remember it, Hello. I use to write it under my desk at work.ha.I would hope that I'm small potatoes the hackers will leave me alone....Pray.

I have never belonged to Facebook. I don't trust it one bit!

Annie, yup.

Kat, very scary to me.

Aunty, I've been watching YouTube videos on the type of people that these scammers are and the gullible people who are taken advantage of. One Canadian woman lost almost a million dollars, and believing that she was about to be arrested ended up committing suicide.

Mark, me too now.

Chet, I totally know what you mean!

Mich, I wonder what it would take to make people stop falling for the scams? Only then can it be stopped.

Oh my gosh! Jalna! That happened to me too! I got the same scam and he had one of the passwords I use. I asked my techie son-in-law and he said it's OK, but I should change that password wherever I used it. It was an old password I don't use anymore, but still so unsettling. He said he had all the sites I visited, etc. which I hadn't so you know most of it was fake, but still... Sheesh! I'm so glad you posted about this. We should warn everybody.

I just checked my very old Facebook account password and that IS the one. I've closed all my Facebook accounts long before, but that must be where it came from. Dang!

Kay, it seems like it was long ago that Facebook got hacked and information stolen. I still don't trust that it won't happen again.
