These light and airy, buttery and sweet, practically melt-in-your-mouth Spanish Rolls from Nanding's Bakery in Kalihi are sooooo worth the calories .
Me and Wendell started scarfing them as soon as I got into the car . . . while they were still hot!
Nanding's Bakery is on Gulick, Makai of King Street.
It's small, but you can't miss it.

When I got inside the bakery, I didn't see any Spanish Rolls on display, so I thought that they had sold out. To my relief, the girl explained that they had lots in the back.

Wow, do they look ono. I'll have to get some next time I go that way. I'm surprised you had some left to take a picture.
Your last shot is cute..it's like the spanish rolls are in a cloud..kinda dreamy...making me hungry again..
I don't imagine there'll be too much left after you mentioned the $1 bargain.
wow, I never even noticed the place! Now I gotta try!
Susie, no forget me, 'kay?
Shun Wah, I liked how that shot came out too. The plastic bag acted like a softbox . . . surprised me.
Ron, what a bargain, yeah. I went to Golden Coin yesterday to buy some and when I saw that the price was double, I decided not to.
Aren't they good? = ) They're sure yummy when it's nice and warm!
mmm these are winnah!
Wow, look so ono! What makes them Spanish Rolls? Is there something inside? I like the shape of them.
mmiissee and Kat, I agree . . . sooo ono.
Betty, not sure why they're called Spanish Rolls. There's no filling, maybe kinda like a fluffy butter roll but sweeter.
I just bought FIVE DOZEN Spanish rolls from Nanding's in Kalihi. I expected it to be hot and was very excited to share them with family and friends. They were cold and dry!!! I guess if you buy it close to closing, they just give you whatever they have left to get rid of everything. Not going there again. The lady told me to bring it back tomorrow but I bought it for a party!!! VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!
OMG Food Critic, I also feel soooo disappointed for you. What a totally bad experience!! I don't blame you for not wanting to go back again, especially after buying FIVE DOZEN!! Don't know if you'll ever give them another chance, but for real, when it's hot and just made it is so ono.
I've been there twice before and the rolls were so nice and hot and that's what I was expecting. I heard the Waipahu one is better. I think I'll go there and also ask to make sure it's hot.
I'm relieved to know that you have tasted it while it was hot. It's good that you mentioned your bad experience. It'll remind me to check my bag before I leave the bakery to make sure that I have a fresh batch.
