I recently wrote about 7 Eleven's saimin that I really liked. I was intrigued because the instructions say not to add water. I bought it again the other day and took a look under the noodles. The broth is gel-like before heating. Aha!
Thats how they make those Shanghai Dumplings, with the soup inside...i saw a special on it and along with the filling, there was a huge bowl of a gelatinous ingredient !!
funny story...while we were in japan randy was hungry late at night so he made a 7-11 run. He brought back musubis, sandwiches and a thingy of soba. I opened the soba and asked him "what's this gelatinous thing??" He had no idea. I tasted it and it tasted good, so i looked at the label closer and it was supposed to be microwaved!! There was no microwave at the hotel so we just muji muji'd it together and ate it cold like that. It was kinda weird but we were hungry! :)
i just bought and ate the one from Nijiya. Miso Ramen. Had a slice of Japan charsui, cabbage, corn. and menma. But I had some moyashi at home so I added that too. the noodles were more like somen, little to soft for my liking but the shiru and everything else was ono. Pretty large so was $7.49, I think. I would eat it again. v
Jalna, I heard from a reliable source that Hawaii will be put in shut down mode in about 2 days. So before the mad rush to buy food and stuff, please tell your sisters to buy their groceries sooner rather than later. It will settle down in the days following but it might be like NYC when they shut the place down. The shelves were emptied at Trader Joes and Whole Foods, etc.
