Reiko was kind enough to add on an additional walking tour on our last day of our trip for those who were interested. Most preferred to stay back, but I thought it would be good for Sweetie to see as much of Tokyo as we could while we were there.
We met Reiko in the lobby of the hotel after checking out at around 9:30 a.m. We then headed to the train station.
We caught the train to Shimbashi where we transferred to the Yamanote Line.
Our destination was Nippori Station.
After exiting the station Reiko mentioned that going right would take us to the fabric town of Nippori. You can find out more here.
Reiko's tour took us left to Yanaka, an old downtown district of Tokyo. You can find out more about Yanaka here. I liked this "no smoking while walking sign".

There was a store that sold bentos for 200 yen, but after I took two pictures, the guy there asked me not to take any photos. Wonder why yah? I suspect that maybe he was The Bento Nazi Guy because he had a diagram and cones to show exactly how to enter his store with a "deguchi" (exit) sign x'd out in red.
After walking through Yanaka we caught the bus to Ueno.

I didn't take much more pictures after this outing for some reason, but I want to mention a cute candy store that we went to after we got back to Odaiba. It's on the 4th floor in the shopping complex called Decks. The name of the store is Edo-ya.
I stole this picture from the Appetite for Japan website. There's more about the store here with more photos. It has a "natsukashii" (nostalgic) old-school candy store feel to it. I would love to go back there again.

whaaaat? I wonder if that candy store is like the one we went searching for the last time we went...remember?? ;) Now I really gotta go to Odaiba! Sounds like you guys had a good time...Hope Sweetie did!!
Ohhhh. That last day walking in Tokyo was my favorite. I could get lost in fabric town and the old downtown shops are my favorite kind. Reminds me of Narita town shops where I could get scissors, fishing stuff, tools, etc.
Ueno looks great too. I would have asked the tour guide to cut me loose so I could get lost in the streets and shops without time restraints.
I better not go to Japan. I am trying to have less stuff and live more simply. Trying is the key word. Doing is something else.

I want to go to Yanaka! Yes, when let loose, you get to go places without time constraints! Although we were by ourselves heading back from Disneyland to my brother's place with a couple stops before heading back, we were warned by my sister in law to make it home before 5pm or we will be fighting for space on the train with the work force heading home!!! yeah, right, with two little boys in tow...oh..and a luggage!!! but we made it home with time to spare. It was hilarious...picture the Home Alone family at the airport scene. Haha, makes me laugh thinking about it!
Check out Kawagoe (about a 20-30 min. train ride from Tokyo). They have a candy street, and a bunch of neat shops with old-fashioned Japanese candies! Sugar rush!!

We're going to try Airbnb for part of our stay in Japan because hotel in Japan is so expensive. A bit nervous but excited! Wish me luck!
