Monday, October 17, 2016 Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Hokkaido
Our first stop of the day was Mt. Usu in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park. This regions features one of Japan's youngest and still active volcanoes, Mt. Showa Shinzan.
Everyday our tour guide passed around a map with our route for the day marked down on it. I really liked that.
On the way, I noticed these wind turbines on the landscape.
This is the gondola on the Usu-zan Ropeway which we rode to an observation deck on the side of the mountain.
This is Mt. Showa Shinzan.
You can click on the photo below to get a slightly bigger view.
I bought a melon at one of the shops at the foot of the mountain.
A lunch stop at Restaurant Caldeira was next on the agenda.
We had this nabe-type hot pot dish. I loved it.
thanks for today

Your camera takes such great photos. My husband looks at your blog daily and always mentions how clear your photos are.
Thank you, Gigi. I bought the camera just before leaving on this trip, and I wasn't sure how it would perform, especially during challenging conditions. I've been happy with the results so far.
nice lunch & photos:)
So did you go on the ropeway? I would be terrified of the height.
Great camera! Are these photos all on auto focus mode? That is my auto default and forever mode - auto focus.
the Nabe hot spot lunch looks so healthy, right up my alley. I will invest in a camera. Phone camera is ok, but the quality of the pic are not as good.
Thanks Kat!
Aunty, it felt very safe in the gondola. I would say that I had the camera on auto about half the time. Sometimes it would choose a shutter speed that was too slow, so then I would set it manually myself.
Chet, that's what I liked about the nabe lunch . . . so healthy. Phone cameras take such great pictures nowadays, but yes, good to invest in a camera for your trip.
I had no idea how to spell Usu in Kanji...good to know. Beautiful pics! Nabe sounds really good! I may fixing the dish tomorrow.
So nice to hear from you Akemi!!
Such beautiful fall sights!
I love them too, Susan!
