Kid Task

I came across this cute video and wanted to share.  A little boy and his even littler sister are given the task of picking up ingredients for dinner.

I remember back in the day walking to kindergarten by myself, but that was a long time ago. Such a thing is unheard of today, but apparently in a country as safe as Japan, it's okay.

Even though I knew that a camera crew was secretly following the tiny duo, I still felt a little scared for them as they went out on their adventure.

The video is in two parts.

Those kids are the cutest little things! You're right - sadly, we can't let our kids wander through the neighborhood running errands for us here in the US.

Nice, there's a place in the world where the children can grow in relative safety. That's what I love about Japan. I saw in cities, people would park a bicycle somewhere, do errands and not worry. Here, gone in a heartbeat. Keikis so cute!!

j: I 'member going to the markets daily with my grandma and auntie - unlike here there are no big supermarkets so everything is bought freshly and a little at a time. Those days, too, their refrigs were small, the size of an office or dorm type. I also 'member walking the streets of Osaka after 10 pm with my cousin and it was sooooo safe. No worries about mugging or rape...and it was cuz there were so many ppl around too. Even here in Mililani I would never walk around after dark. I also don't understand why we have so many pedophiles...is it our attitude towards children vs. Japan where they are so treasured and loved. I don't get it. -N

I totally agree, Chet.

N, I think it's so cool that you have such memories!

I loved everything about these vids! It was scary to watch though...I was wondering about the cars driving nearby. I remember walking around my brother's neighborhood in Tokyo. Cars drive pretty fast and some areas you need to cross the street to walk on a sidewalk. We did have one scare though...there was a guy walking around talking out loud like he was mad. We found out later that he's a regular around the neighborhood and doesn't harm anyone.

Me too, Susan . . . I worried about the cars. I feel sorry for those crazy people who walk around talking to themselves, but I'm still scared of them.
