Japan - Day 4 - Porotokotan

Sunday, October 16, 2016   Shiraoi, Hokkaido

After our dream-come-true ramen at Lake Shikotsu, we boarded our bus once again and headed to the town of Shiraoi to visit the Shiraoi Ainu Museum called Porotokotan.

Porotokotan is an outdoor reproduction of a small Ainu Village where exhibits and artifacts are displayed relating to the history, culture and lifestyle of the Ainu. Ummmm . . . sorry but I didn't take any photos of exhibits or artifacts relating to the history, culture and lifestyle of the Ainu. It was dark in the huts, and I kinda forgot that my new camera comes with an attached flash. Or maybe no flash photography was allowed. Yup, I think that's it . . . no flash photography was allowed. Maybe. Ahem . . .

Are the people in the village fairly tall? Looking at the picture with the woman and man giving the shaka, he's tall! Just curious because I thought the further north you go, the taller the people seemed to be.

Les, I'm so used to not using flash that I forgot I can with the Sony.

V, I think that they are. I wonder if they have some Russian blood mixed in from way back.

Interesting, the indigenous/ aboriginal people of that area. The lake so picturesque and calm.

I agree, Chet. It was a very peaceful area.
