Kauai - Chickens, Chickens, Chickens
We're back from Kauai! So sorry! Leslie tried really hard to blog while we were there, but due to weak wifi connection at our hotel it just wasn't possible. Our posts will be coming soon. I think I'll be doing mine by subject matter rather than chronologically. That way maybe I can s-t-r-e-t-c-h out my trip posts for a long time.
Me and Les couldn't believe our eyes when we first arrived in Kauai. Chickens were everywhere you looked . . . mostly roosters, it seems.
People said it was from Hurricane Iniki time when chickens escaped. Now they're running wild all over the place.
This photo was taken in Koloa town.

Good gracious! That's a whole lot of chickens. Soooo.... I'm waiting to hear what the good eating places were and what kind of goodies you brought back. I know we have to look for opihi cookies from Kauai Chocolate Company in Eleele.
Kay, we didn't know about opihi cookies. Shucks!
Opihi cookies? Sounds not so delicious. bleh. Chickens, chickens and more frickin chickens! hahahaha!! Gotta love kauai!
Cute! Da chickens. Kauai is one place that I used to think I wanted to live. Kinda country, and so green. Now, I am not so sure. I am too townie.
I know what you mean, Aunty. I think I would love to live there, but not sure I could handle the remoteness.
Wonder what kine cookies they are yah, Les.
Oh Yeah, da moa!
Opihi Cookies are shortbread cookies with a macadamia nut on top then it is covered with caramel and chocolate. Really yummy! Winnie

AWWWW the cute chickens!! I like chickens. Cool picture. Sounds like you guys had loads of fun!
j: Kay is in the know. I so niele and so I looked it up, they have 5 outlets on Kauai and they're called opihi cuz: The “Chocolate Opihi” is our most popular confection (shortbread cookie, caramel and a whole macadamia nut covered in chocolate). The macadamia nuts are always fresh because we roast in a small copper kettle. http://kauaimade.net/listing/kauai-chocolate-company/
Hoo, sounds ono! I nevah know Kauai had dat many chickens! I 'member there was a debate on the island about getting rid of them and it was a major controversy. I thought then, whats the big deal about "some" chickens. And they're still breeding. Oh man, they'll be covered w/ 'em after a while. -N
Opinion cookies is a piece of shortbread with caramel and macnut covered with chocolate. I just has a bit of the shape of an opihi.
LOL, Cloudia.
OMG Winnie, that sounds so good!
Ho Mich, never even heard of them.
Choke good fun, Susie. Too bad you couldn't join us.
