Our last meal on Kauai was from Po's Kitchen. Sounds like a a noodle joint run by a goose and his panda son, right? We had actually planned on eating at Smiley's Local Grinds which is next door to Po's, but Smiley's looked crowded. As me and Les stood there debating if we should go into Smiley's a guy walks out of Po's with an armful of old-school box lunches. We weren't too keen on eating Chinese, but we walked on over and peered through the glass door.
Surprise! It's not even Chinese . . . it's an okazuya! That'll work. This is the deluxe box lunch ($8.65). It contains everything on the left side of the menu board. The regular has the same things but minus the shrimp tempura. I forget what's excluded in the small size. It was good. We even ordered three more to go for the men back home. They substituted long rice in place of the salad after I said that we were flying home with them later that day.
There was a steady stream of customers who passed through while we ate. I'm glad.
j: wow cheap! I love Gulick Deli but sooooo expensive but their food (mostly) is good. It's easy to spend over $20 at Gulick but I so love okazuya food vs. plate lunches. I love that you travel local style - good, cheap places fo' eat -N
For Myko: Only thing about Sekiya's - it is SUPER expensive, probably twice the price, or more. Got Fukuya's on King Street, also St. Louis Delicatessen (but they close when they sell out).

OMG, I miss that place. Would you know any places in town (Ala Moana area) that's similar?
All the locals go there so must be good! Po's Kitchen, someplace to remember, thanks!
Oooooh, and the special was fried akule? My favorite, yum yum.
N, me and Leslie are like that. We can just eat musubi-on-the-run for lunch if have to.
Kinda nostalgic yah, Aunty.
Myko, the only place that comes to mind right now is Sekiya across Kaimuki High School.
For Myko: Only thing about Sekiya's - it is SUPER expensive, probably twice the price, or more. Got Fukuya's on King Street, also St. Louis Delicatessen (but they close when they sell out).
The food looks good. I have to go Kauai one of these days.
I never knew this place existed....thank you for sharing.
Thanks Aunty!
Hope you get to go soon, Mmiissee!
