Back in 1980 under the cover of darkness and with whatever possessions he could carry Bien fled from Vietnam in a boat with about 20 other people. They crossed the South China Sea and arrived in Malaysia where Bien lived in a refugee camp for about a year. He later relocated to the Philipines for a short while and finally settled here in Hawaii.
Bien started working with us at Y & M in 1991 . . . 20 years ago. He also got married that same year and a few years later, his daughter Nina was born. Nina graduated this past Sunday from McKinley High School.
And she graduated with HONORS!
