Kid-Time Fun
Kid time we would sometimes spend our day doing this. I wonder how many other kids did it too.
If it doesn't look familiar to you, this is what was at the end of the string.
We would stun the bee with either cotton and alcohol (Geri's method) or just soak the bee with water (Cy's method), and while the bee was incapacitated, we would tie a string around it.
After awhile the bee would revive and try to fly away, and we would hang on to the other end of the string. I feel kinda bad now for the poor bee, but back then it was good fun.

wow! thought you were flying a kite at first!
Wow, first time hearing about this. Poor bees, lol
We visited family friends in California when I was small. They set it up for me using one of those big bumblebees. Was fun, but I never tried it again. Too chicken to set it up myself! =) - L
Hahaha! I never did that, too scared of bees.

LOL, Kat. When we were pau, we would let the string go and watch it fly off.
Susan, so poor things!
L, I dunno how we never got stung.
Lizsmom, I know! I would be too scared to try today.
So what happened to the bee after. Make die die? Or they fly away with a string around them for life?
Aunty, probably make die die . . . so mean us, yah.
j: never heard of that and I'd be too scared of a sting. I use to feed the ants in an ant hole and then few days later I would pour water into it. I had a god complex way back then -N
i'm going into tree hugger mode....bees are disappearing at an alarming rate nowdays so nobody better say, "wow, this it cool, I better try it!"
ahahaha
