Wendell's Drunken Chicken
Here is another dish that Wendell made using a recipe from What Hawaii Likes to Eat. Created by Chef Aaron Fukuda, it is very tasty . . . no doubt due to the overnight marinating.
1 1/2 pounds chicken thighs or drumsticks
Marinade:
2 c. sake
1 c. shoyu
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. honey
2 tbs. minced garlic
2 tbs. minced fresh ginger
1 tsp. black pepper
1 c. green onions, chopped
Wash chicken, drain and pat dry. Place in large zip-lock bag. Combine ingredients of marinade and add to chicken, coating all sides. Marinate overnight.
Grill on hibachi (about 25 to 30 minutes).

Looks ʻono! I think chicken breasts would be okay, too, yeah? Mahalo for the recipe!
Welcome, Moki. I think breasts would be good too!
That's Len's friend, he used to be Sam Choy's right hand man, Sam even took him to Iron Chef one year! Chicken looks really good!
Landon worked with Aaron at Sam Choy's in Kapahulu for a little while too, Mich!
No wonder Landon did that rice so well, you are so lucky to have chefs in your house!Ask Landon if he has ez recipes to share too. Mahalo, -N
Wow...that's a lot of sake and honey.looks ono!
Yah, N . . . Landon was a chef for a little while, but now he works at Pearl Harbor. He no more recipe, that buggah. He just throws stuff together . . . that's how he cooks.
OMG, Anon. Wendell used one bottle of honey.
Holy macaroni one bottle of honey? Crazy but that is what gives the chicken that glaze...I would of tried to stretch it more and add more chicken. I know that in Korean recipes they use corn syrup instead of honey. It's what I used to make Taegu. A combo of honey and corn syrup would be tasty also.
J: I wen make da meatloaf recipe tonite for dinner. OMG it is incredibly moist and flavorful! The only diff was I grated old thick Japanese pan that was rock hard for bread crumbs. I even added the mix veggies. I never made meatloaf w/ pork and maybe ats why it's tasty and moist. Actually a lotta 'juice' came out. No need gravy just lil dat is good. Big mahalo to you and Da Wendall. -N
I know, Anon! And honey not cheap too.
I'm so happy you tried it, N!!
If your "guys" want to try throw a recipe together, ask them to make a winner recipe that duplicates Kewpie dressing! That's THE BEST salad dressing.
I agree, Al. I loooove that dressing. I wonder if Lan could figure it out. He has da kine good palate.
I'm sure there are recipes on the internet. One of my friends tried but said it wasn't the same. We are wondering if you have to use Kewpie mayonnaise too, which is on sale at Don Quijote this week. Maybe I gotta buy and try.
yummy! I gotta try this one and the peanut butter one soon!
Ooooh, I wonder, Al . . .
I think you'll like it, Kat!

Everyone welcome! We can swim and play like Keiki in da back yard!
Wendal can be in charge of the BBQ!
And we need one massive pig in da ground overnight!
And fresh Opihi from the Molokai shores! My friends used to take their boat there to pick them! Cost too much on Oahu!
