This is our neighbor's mango tree. See how a good part of it hangs over into our yard? There is no way the neighbor can get to the mangoes on our side.
On Mother's Day my family came over and a few of them wanted to pick some still-green mangoes, so I went next door and asked for permission. Our mango picker was all bust-up but I improvised by attaching a small scoop net to it. It worked okay when my brother got on a ladder and could reach the nearby mangoes, but for the far ones it was pretty useless.
As the weeks went by and the mangoes ripened they would fall to the ground and mostly I would just throw them away. A few weekends ago I decided that I should mend the picker and try to pick the mangoes before they fell.
We found this fishing net bag at Walmart. I think it was around $6 something.
It turned out to be the perfect fit. I attached it with a wax-coated twine that I found in one of our cupboards.
It worked good.

Making my mouth water. Not sure why Hawaii mangoes taste the best. Tried mangoes from Mexico and not as sweet or juicy.
J: you are a good neighbor.Me, I'd pick up the mangos and throw it far into their yard. Mangos stink when they rot. Smart though that you fixed it your picker and you wove it so nicely. Again, I wouldn't have asked, anything on your side of fence is yours and they really should be maintaining to ensure it doesn't pass the property line. We've got a neighbor and her SIL complains when our trees branches enter their yard since they were planted on the property line and yet theirs intrude on ours. But yes we shaddup to keep good neighbor relations. -N

Me, Wendell and Landon are not really into mangoes, Anon. I'm glad I found out that everybody else loves um. So, now part of my daily routine is to check and see if I can spock any yellow/red coloring in the tree, and then I try get um.
Yah, N . . . best to try and keep relations good with the neighbors . . . even if they do own rabbits that come into our yard and eat my plants.

We eat the malungay fruit too the long thingees. Gasp, Jalna, you throw the mangoes? We buy them here almost $2 or more a lb!
Susan, you can eat the malungay fruit? I didn't know you could. I thought you just use the leaves for soup! I know . . . "gasp" . . . I'm glad that I found out that most people like mango before I ended up throwing um all away.

Yes, if the green skin still soft, pliable no need to peel. But once they get bigger, thicker you have to peel the skin because it is Very tough. My mom used to pick both ways but usually wait till bigger because more vegetable to eat. They sell this at the flea mkt here all cut up and bagged ready to throw in the soup.
