j: Good idea, how long did it take to sop up all the oil. I'm looking forward to other ppl posting what they do. I usually either pour it out in a plastic bag lined w/ newspaper after it cools, then I line the pan with old newspaper to sop up the remaining oil, then after that I wipe it with a paper towel since I use t-fal pans. Sounds like a lotta hum bug but this way I don't pour it down the drain.
I so chang that I go mottanai when I toss the oil. I do use a deep fryer just for my lunch french fries so I reuse the oil for a month or more. -N
I have never seen those before. For years I have been using my used spaghetti glass jars and filling them with used oil, then they go in the trash when full.
Sometimes I dump the used oil in my backyard fire ring too. It soaks into the ash, so no mess.
N, it sopped up the oil really fast. I was hoping that it was more absorbent though so that maybe only one woulda been good enough. I never thought to use newspaper!
Your ash solution sounds interesting, Mark.
We save mayonnaise jars too, Les.
Yah, Kat.
It is, Jody, considering using used napkins and paper towels is almost free since it's like recycling. LOL.
sooo coolll...I am guessing you can put in IN stock, soup or stew and it will soak up all the oil on top right. I bought something from DonQ....but its just a sheet to put right on the stock or soup...was hard to take out after it soaked up the oil ;o\
I have bottles of oil and missed the island wide recycling event last month. I don't think we're allowed to dump it in the trash although I used to. I'm thinking soon I will dump it in the backyard but I'm afraid if there's a fire the oil in the yard is not a good thing. I might have to pay to take the oil somewhere : (
That was an expensive way to sop up oil in a pan, but good to know.
I had some of those that were hidden for years. Since I make bone broth for Uncle and the oil comes to the top, I used one of those to soak up the oil. Surprisingly, it worked great! Grabbed the oil but not the broth liquid, so when I pulled it out with tongs, it was light and only had the oil on 'em, and I just threw it away in the rubbish can.
I have not seen this product but I will look for it. I have a box of oil solidifier, come in powder form in 3 individual packets, just sprinkle 1 packet over the still hot oil and let it cool, throw away the solid oil (almost jello like texture) in a trash after. It's inexpensive too.

wow! pretty good! I just fried chicken for Randy tonight and filled a mayonnaise jar full of oil...
so cool!
That was kind of expensive. I usually just toss in everyone's used napkins and any paper towels that got used while making dinner to sop up the oil :)
It was convenient, Jenny.

what about pouring the oil into those oil change boxes for cars?
Didi, I neva know had such a thing as a sheet to sop up oil from soup.
I like that idea, Anon!

Tonkatsu looked so ono!
Susan, I'm not even sure if we're not supposed to dump bottles of oil in our trash too, but we sometimes do.
Hey, neat idea, Aunty!
Can you eat it? LOL
WOW! I hope I'll remember the next time I go to Marukai to buy some.
Ewwwww, Erick.
Came in handy, Mmiissee.

I have that too, Akemi! But I think I didn't use it properly. I'm gonna try again.
