My Backyard

There was so much for me to learn in making this 1 1/2-minute video.  And there's still a lot more I need to learn.

Shooting was a challenge because DSLR cameras like my Canon 5D only have one plane of focus.  Anything in front or in back of that plane is blurry. BUT anything in that plane is crisp. I learned that your shutter speed needs to remain constant: 1/50 if shooting at 24 frames/second and 1/60 if shooting at 30 frames/second. Exposure is adjusted by f-stop and ISO settings.

Editing too was hard for me. I kept messing up and had to start all over several times.  But like Pink sings, "You gotta get up and try, try, try-y-y. Uuuu . . . . u . . . uuuuu." But I digress . . .

Here it is . . . a minute and a half of My Backyard.

J: I've honestly never seen a vid of a backyard so yours so far is da best. I remember when our dog club vid a dog show we had and we had someone's husband shoot it on a windy day. Can we say the entire vid was like being in a wind tunnel. It was shut off after 10 min. cuz no one could think beyond the wind. It's not that easy! Luv you sharing your experiences w/ us -N

That was great editing for your first try!
Try shoot with your iPhone too. Has auto stabilizer.
Reminds me of when I took classes at Olelo and we had to do a 3 minute video from filming to producing to editing and the winner got some kind of prize. I forced my kids to be part of it and they acted out knock knock jokes. Lame kind.
We nevah win, but it was good fun trying!

It's so cool that you did that with your kids, Aunty!
