I'm on a Diet Again

I'm putting it out there.  And showing my weight even.   Basically, the problem is I'm getting too old to be fat and unhealthy.

Below is what's in my "diet" folder on my desktop . . . my weight in the morning and then to the right of it, what I ate that day . . . sort of . . . there's no lunch photo for July 6, my start date.  I think I had my favorite Vietnamese Tomato Soup and some gyoza.

Don't know if I'm gonna keep documenting like this, but it's kinda who I am, yah . . . a documenter.

My goal is -20 pounds by Thanksgiving.  And then the hard part . . . keeping it off.  I need to be fit and mobile for when Japan opens up again.  Right?  Wish me luck!!

Thank you, for being vulnerable. By documenting and having it out there, you're keeping the promise to yourself and being accountable. I try to eat healthy, plant based as much as possible and organic, at the same time I won't deprive myself. Like anything, in moderation. Wen wuz young, could eat anykine, now makule, harder to lose weight...lol.

J, as a pro dieter I have always gained it back, plus more when I quit the diet. I eventually was up to 200 lbs. No secret, I am a stress eater and when I retired I lost 50 lbs. over 2-3 years naturally, not a conscious decision. One time I brought my blood sugar and weight way down when I stopped eating carbs, i.e rice and just ate chicken mizutake nightly. Cut all the fat, anything deep fried. Back then I didn't eat too much bread as it all turns to sugar.Of course that cannot be sustained so I gained it back but no starch will make it easier. Even now I don't eat a lot of rice. 3 cups of rice lasts me about 3 weeks and I only buy 10 lb. bags cuz it gets those moths. Also meal replacement shakes such as Ensure will keep your sugar levels up so you won't starve. They are filling and has good nutritional value, they have one for diabetics. Not a liquid diet, just something so you're not hungry and glucose tablets help too between meals. -N

Try do intermittent fasting. I would eat dinner on Sunday and only drink water or green tea and then have only coffee and yogurt with almonds for breakfast, skip lunch, and then eat a light dinner on Monday night - ochazuke rice with tsukemono and fish. I tell you, those Monday dinners were SO ono! I lost about a pound a week but I kinda stopped because I was starting to feel a bit weak and I had lost a bit too much weight. I am at my ideal weight right now.

Izsmom, thanks! The progress is slowing down already. So soon. LOL.

Anon, thank you. I'm short. 5 feet 2 inches . . . okay . . . I lied . . . I'm 5 feet 1 inch.

Chet, as each decade passed by, it got harder and harder. LOL.

N, I've lost 20 pounds before when we had a challenge at work. But, me too, I gained it all back quickly. I've cut down on my rice a lot, but it's the desserts and snacks that are my downfall.

Kat, thank you for the encouragement.

Aunty, I've been wondering how to modify your intermittent fasting. I normally just have coffee for breakfast so by lunchtime I'm starving. I can't skip it. But maybe on fasting days I can skip dinner instead. Hmmmm . . .

Oh my gosh, great job Jalna. I am fully supportive of your journey and know you can do it! I saw Aunty's comment about intermittent fasting, gosh I wish I could. I am constantly thinking about food all the time. Thinking about my next meal when I'm eating my current one. What I'm trying to do right now is watch my calorie intake and try to stay at a deficit.

I totally need (and want) to lose 20-25 lbs!
I have dr's appt Wednesday morning so will again ask him if he can give me something!! anything!! to help.
I hear they are approving some diabetes drugs because it does result in a good weight loss although it can cause the runs pretty bad. Ugh.

I know someone who lost a lot of weight doing intermittent fasting & supposed to help with diabetes too. The key was stick to it and don't give up.

Susan, I find I've been leaning towards eating within an 8 hour period.
