j: that's what I found claustrophobic about Japan, the sheer number of people. I literally got the screaming mi-mis one time cuz there was such a crush of ppl out on the sidewalks...then the shoving and pushing. Guess things still haven't changed. -N
oh yah, Nishiki Market seems worse! Past several times, could barely walk through. Lucky I'm big so I can just push my way through. Was curious, how or what type of tsukemono did your son bring back? Don't they smell really strong? Maybe because I love barazuke, the white, drier type that really is pungent! So ono. Oh, and narazuke! v
Nishiki Market in Kyoto wasn't crowded for us. Kuromon Market in Osaka was a little bit more crowded but not enough to not enjoy good eats! We went a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. Weather was perfect too. Not too cold.

Tsukiji was an experience, but I prefer the smaller fish markets like in Hakodate or Nishiki market in Kyoto(??).
Aunty, Landon brought home several bags.
N, I know what you mean, and I think the influx of Chinese tourist is adding to it.
I agree, Chet.
Oh no. I really really dislike crowds. I would have done exactly what you and Landon did. LOL

I think Nishiki market in Kyoto is just as krazy during this time of year too.
OK... I'm ready to go back to Japan. Osaka was super crowded too.
Izsmom, me too. I don't even attend stuff here if I know it's gonna be crowded.
Aiyaaa, Kat . . . that place is narrow to begin with.
Kay, I guess it's to be expected.

V, too bad about Nishiki Market being crowded. I liked that place. I'll email you pictures of Lan's tsukemono.
