We passed by the construction site of the National Stadium in Shinjuku which is being built for the upcoming 2020 Olympics. It is a HAYUGE 52 acres (half the size of Ala Moana Beach Park) and expensive ($1.5 BILLION). Demolition of the old stadium was completed in May 2015 and construction of the new stadium began in December 2016. It is scheduled to be completed in March 2019.
No wonder the traffic was So bad, when we were near Shinjuku.Wouldn't mind going to Olympics in '20. Gayle said it'll be a zoo and expensive.By the way, congratulations to Dean.
I remember when I used to fly every week to Japan, and especially Osaka. The new train station was being built, and I swear the structure came up in a couple of months. Unreal how fast they build.
Chet, it would be an experience, but ho, Gayle is right.
Aunty, I remember when I huge sinkhole opened up a couple years ago in front of a train station in Fukuoka. I was thinking it would take months to fix. It took them a few days. So amazing.
I think Japan is very efficient. Look how clean and safe their country is. My sis in law told us in 2015 to make sure to come back to Japan in 2020 for the Olympics. Kind of a scary thought. I'm thinking how crowded the subway/train stations were when we went.So what would it be like during the Olympics?

Les, it was sooooo big.
It amazes me how any country would want to host the Olympics since it's so darn expensive.
Kay, I totally agree!!!
