Kapahulu Again

I took my car in for service last week . . . I know . . . I just took it in . . . but my mechanic Ernest likes for me to bring it in every 3 months, so I found myself in Kapahulu again with an hour to kill. The last time I strolled along Campbell Avenue. This time I decided to head towards the Ala Wai Canal.

The repair shop is behind the 7-Eleven by Rainbow Drive In.

This cafe caught my eye. It's in the same complex as Hee Hing Restaurant.

They were kind enough to let me take photos inside. I thought it was just a coffee shop . . .

but it must be more than that . . . "electronic cigarettes"? "vapor cafe"?

The decor in this shop was sooooo neat. They had hand-painted umbrellas dangling upside down from the ceiling. Unfortunately, the owner wasn't in and the girl manning the shop didn't want to get into trouble by giving me permission to take pictures. I don't blame her, but . . . bummahs.

Before I knew it Ernest called to say that my car was done. I only got as far as the fire station.

I don't ever remember seeing that statute by the Ala Wai either. I'm thinking the library building has been there "forever". I remember listening to stories my grandfather would tell about there being taro patches in Waikiki. He was the golf caddy at the Ala Wai Golf Coarse for many years.

Can't beat your recent historical walk, Kat!

I wanna check out the library when it's open, Betty. I've never been in there. I bet your grandpa had some neat stories.

Considering how much pictures you take and how long it takes you to take them, you got pretty far! hahahaah!

Hahahaha, Les, really yeah! I think if you just walk straight, it would take about 5 minutes from Rainbow Drive In to the fire station.
