Gyotaku in Niu Valley

We had a $40 gift card to Gyotaku so me and Wendell decided to splurge tonight. They don't take reservations so I called before going and asked how long the wait would be. Although the girl said it would be about 15 minutes they seated us only a few minutes after we arrived. Everything was really, really good.
We started off with the Crab Cake Lettuce Wrap ($9.95)
This is the Agedashi Tofu ($4.95)
Wendell ordered the California Sushi/Tempura Set ($19.95). It came with this sushi assortment . . .
miso soup and salad . . .
and a tempura assortment. He actually sumo sized it with 2 more shrimp tempura for an additional $4.25.
Here is my Crunchy Tempura Roll ($9.95)
and my Smoked Salmon Salad ($8.95).

Colin Day

This past Sunday we had a Get-to-Know-Colin Day at my house for all those who hadn't really gotten to spend time with Colin yet.

Here's Kona meeting Colin for the first time.
We had a very simple make-your-own sandwich lunch.
Didi brought this bread. I think she said it was called Epi.
Here's everyone making their sandwiches.
Diem brought this really ono coffee gelatin dessert.
Didi shared her current favorite drink. It's called Activate. The vitamins/flavor are stored in it's cap which you twist to release. Didi said it can be found at Don Quixote for about $2.00. It has a really nice taste.
My nephews really got into it trying to help me get good photos of the drinks. Daniel held up my white poster board for a seamless look.
He arranged the bottles and directed me on how to capture the reflections.
Then my nephew Jason arranged the bottles on black dish towels so that we could read the words better.
He wanted me to angle the shot for a more artistic look.
And then arranged the bottles juuuuuust right so that the front bottle would be clear and the background bottles blurry. Good assistants yeah!!

The Oka Family

When Fawn Yamada asked if I could take photos of her sister and her family who were visiting from California I jumped at the chance. I had wanted to check out Makapuu after seeing Leslie's photos that she took of her hairdresser there, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. I kinda didn't find the exact spot and we had major hair issues with the wind, but I still had choke good fun. Much mahalos to the Oka family and to the Yamada family for being there. I hope we can do this again sometime!

Campbell Avenue

I took my car in for a 6-month maintenance service today. When my mechanic said that it would be only an hour before it was done I decided to take a stroll around the neighborhood to kill time. I walked along Campbell Avenue from Kapahulu to Monsarrat. I had my 100mm macro lens with me. Here are the pics in the order that I took um.
