Garage Sale Finds

The Niu Valley Community Garage Sale was this past Saturday. I spent a couple of hours walking through the neighborhood . . . good exercise, but was HOT.

Here are my finds . . . around $17 total.

This was my most expensive buy . . . $4. The best thing about having internet access while on the go is that I can research the value of things. I found that this was selling on eBay for around $8.00 plus $3 for shipping. Knowing this made it easier for me to fork over the bucks.

I just couldn't resist getting this luggage tag holder. It kept making me laugh. It was only $1, and it cleaned up nicely after I wiped it down with some disinfectant wipes.

I so scored on these Hello Kitty watches. Each was from a different seller. The one in the middle was $2, the other two were $1 each.  I've been wearing the one of the left.  A cute, little girl sold me the minion. She said it was 15 cents, but I gave her a quarter because I'm generous like dat.

The lady who was selling this book said that it was 50 cents, but I gave her a dollar 'cause . . .  you know . . . generous. It's a good book. Easy reading. I finished it in a day . . . even though I fell asleep midway and had to continue after the nap.

Just a note to Anonymous commenters: I've been getting a lot of Anonymous comments lately which are Spam. They automatically go into a Spam folder. I usually try to review them and accept legitimate comments before mass deleting the rest, but if your comment doesn't make it past the cut, wanted to let you know why . . . my bad.

Juicy Brew

A few weeks ago . . . or was it last week? . . . I went to Juicy Brew on the way home from work.

I got the Southwestern Orzo Salad, Singapore Noodles and Vegan Breakfast Burrito . . . kinda pricey but ono. Don't think I could go there too often.

BE AWARE!!

At the risk of making you ladies paranoid (like me), I feel I need to share this email that I got from one of my sisters:

Regular customer of ours told me today that a couple of weeks ago, she went to Don Q on her lunch break. She works at HMSA. She was just outside of the parking area at Don Q, going down Kaheka, walking back to work …. middle of the day, broad daylight….cars going up and down, folks walking on the other side of the street and she could see folks waiting at the crosswalk for the light to change……

This guy walks up to her, not homeless guy or anything, normal looking young guy…and he ripped her gold necklace off her neck. Said he pulled at it twice and it broke. Then he walked away like normal, not even running or anything…..

She said that she is always careful coz nowadays got so much homeless folks up and down Keeaumoku and the side streets. She said that she had previously thought that if this situation ever happened, she would immediately kick the person in the nuts, and attack his face….and scream scream scream…..

Instead, she just froze, couldn’t yell, couldn’t move her hands….nothing. She ran into the firestation for help…..

So scary….

Speaking of Farts

Here's a hilarious Father's Day card that a friend gave to her dad after he thankfully recovered from a bowel obstruction. Thanks for sharing, S!!

Couple Vegan Desserts

My cousin Roger has been a vegan for 20 years. Dat's right . . . 20 YEARS! He's my hero right now. I saw him this past weekend, and he gave me these two desserts. They're from Juicy Brew. THANK YOU, ROGER!!

I was able to visit Juicy Brew myself the other day. I'll have a blog post for you about it soon.

Here's what Roger gave me. I loved them!

Update, Day 14:  I gained back couple pounds . . . been enjoying too much mi goreng maybe. I do feel more energetic and lighter (good pooping). My hip joints seem to be handling going up stairs better. My fingers are still quite stiff, but I'm hopeful.

Kona and His New Bowl

I got this bowl for Kona because he eats way too fast. He's usually done in about 10 seconds. Sometimes he even gags after eating. This bowl is designed so that he would eat slower and thus would aid in digestion. I tried it for the first time yesterday.

IMG_7094

Kona doesn't like new things so I had my doubts about him adapting to it. He approached the bowl slowly.

He stopped and stared.

He looked at me and "said", "You're kidding me, right?"

The Homeless Paradise

About two years ago I did a blog post about Diana Kim and her dad.  You can check it out here. I became intrigued by their story. Others did too and it soon gained international attention.

I wanted to stay abreast with the progress of Diana's relationship with her dad and so I started following her blog, The Homeless Paradise, and I even attached a link to it on my sidebar.

Gradually though, I noticed that her posts had become "private" and I was unable to access them. I began to suspect that maybe all the attention that she had been receiving had become overwhelming for her, and I removed the link.

I've been checking back every once in awhile to see if maybe there were any updates and just the other day, there was. If you like, you can read it here: Cultivating the Home | The Homeless Paradise.
