I received this text a few weeks ago.
I ignored it and 3 hours later received this.
I was worried that somebody wasn't gonna get their cake so I replied that this was a wrong number and got this.
I said "no problem".
I "hearted" this text and said that I hoped that their cake order would work out okay.
Then, I got this. That's when I responded that it's time I said goodbye. I went online and googled "wrong number phone text scam" and discovered that that's exactly what happened to me.

I’ve had text messages from the USPS one. I’ve gotten WhatsApp messages from ppl telling me I’ve won all these prizes but I just block them.

These scams are insidious, coming across as innocent. The mainthing you divulge any personal info.
J, wow this is the first time I heard of this scam. Truly a long-term game plan. I guess the scammers are realizing the irs, getting arrested, the grandma scams are just not working anymore. I am a part of LinkedIn because I keep in touch with my previous co-workers which is nice seeing a lot of them get promoted to Executive positions. nice to stay in touch wherever in the world they may be.
But I started getting friend requests from these young Chinese male executives who work for big companies like Facebook, Google and Amazon. I know they're legit because I would look at their profile and they've been online with LinkedIn for many years. So I thought well cool I'll get to know somebody that's a techie but then they would start chatting like personal stuff. And my profile clearly says I'm retired so they know I'm old and you don't use a professional website to make friends??? Are they looking for a grandma substitute? So weird. I couldn't find any scams on that either.
Even a doctor on the mainland tried to connect with me but I didn't respond in fact now I just delete any friend request. I guess if there's a way to steal money then they'll be a scammer. Glad you were Akamai enough to see the red flags. I think all senior folks since we're the biggest target, really need to be vigilant. N

N, I remember creating a LinkedIn account long time ago to stay in touch with somebody (?). Maybe? Not sure. But I'm so unsociable I never used it. 🤪
These are always hard to handle! Sometimes I just block right away or sometimes I say wrong number and then block lol. :) You handled it well! Too bad people are doing all these bad schemes nowadays!
