Black Cod from Times

Times had frozen black cod on sale last week for $12.99/pound.  They were packed two to a tray.  When I unwrapped the tray I was surprised to see that each piece was sealed individually.  The fillet pieces were firm with a large flaky texture and . . . another surprise . . . totally boneless.

I'll be checking the ads for another sale and, cross fingers, hoping that they'll be of the same quality.

I used the recipe from here to make miso butterfish.  Was winnahs.

I LOVE butterfish! Used to be so cheap and my mom used to pan fry the ones that look like steaks. Eat with grated daikon, lemon, and shoyu. But your miso butterfish is even more ono!

Black cod is what is used for miso butterfish. The filets looks very nice. Before butterfish came a popular dish, fishermen use to discard when they caught it. Now the darn fish is expensive.

love miso butterfish! looks perfectly amazing!
I remember eating it more like Aunty's way when I was a kid. Yummy too.
I wonder why was so much cheaper back then. Must be supply and demand here in Hawaii.

I LOVE miso yaki butterfish! I never thought of making it though. I wonder if you can use this recipe with some other kind of fish.

Kay, it's pretty easy to make. Go try!

I love miso butterfish but after trying many recipes and not finding one which tastes like the miso butterfish in restaurants, I gave up. I usually buy butterfish steaks but I like this one since it's individually wrapped and has no bones! I made this tonight and it was delicious! I had added one tablespoon of miso to the liquid but it still got lumpy so I did what I do when I make miso soup. Put the miso in a bowl and add a little liquid at a time and stir until the liquid is incorporated. Repeat. Your miso will come out smooth and creamy. Thanks Jalna!
