Wendell bought one of those Hot Deals buy-one-get-one free coupon things online for the Five Star International Buffet in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. It's only good Monday through Friday, so we decided to go for lunch this past Monday since we were both off. Unfortunately, because it was Kam Day (and the reason we were off) and holidays don't count, the coupon wasn't good. Still the lunch buffet was only $20 so we decided to go for it anyway . . . and let me tell you, it was well worth it.
I looooved the table we got seated at. It had perfect window lighting!
Getting my food plus taking pictures at the same time was small-kine hard 'cause I didn't wanna annoy the people who were in line with me. I tried to do it fast . . . so I did miss a bunch of stuff and I didn't get the names of most of the dishes.
This was a loco moco made with Japanese-style hamburger. It was good.
My favorite items in a buffet are always the cold stuff rather than the hot foods, and I loved this buffet's cold display.
I really liked this although I have no idea what it was. It kinda tasted like garlic mochiko chicken all minced up.
This was Wendell's first plate. So little bit, yah.
This was mine. So yummy.
This was a cold eggplant dish . . . so pretty and very ono.
This was Wendell's second plate . . . again so little bit food. He did eventually get two more plates, but for some reason I missed taking pictures of them.
This udon was ono.
These are toppings for the udon.
This is my second plate. The miso soup was goooood and the karaage chicken da bomb.
Iced tea came with the meal.
This is my third and final plate.
This is Wendell's dessert plate.
This chocolate pudding/mousse was sooooooooooo goooooood.
thanks for today

We went there on a friday night. We didn't enjoy it as much as you did though. A lot of the food was cold (the steamed rice was hotter than most of the entrees) and wasn't worth the dinner price of $42 (kamaaina rate). We also called ahead and was told there would be lobster tails, but when we got there they said they didn't have it. I must say though a lot of our friends have liked it there, so we need give Five Star a second chance, maybe lunch for $20.00 wouldn't be so bad.
Actually, Mich there were quite a few poor reviews on Yelp, so I wasn't sure what to expect. For me, it was worth the $20 lunch price. I usually lose out when it comes to dinner buffets though 'cause I only like the cheaper dishes.
Great pics! Food looks awesome!!!
that looks fantastic!
will have to try someday.

Items look good...I am not a big fan of buffets...its been my experience that hot dishes are not hot or else they look like they've out for awhile. Wow, $42 for dinner seems a little outrageous, $20 for lunch seems high too...maybe not with the numerous choices offered. We use a lot of coupon offers for eating out.
Kathy went like three times without me and she said it was good. I bought the groupon thingy too so I hope I'm not disappointed!
Thanks Dean!
Hope you get to try them out someday, Kevin.
Betty, I love buffets for the variety, but I know I wouldn't be able to eat $42 worth.
I think you'd like it Les.
Looks like a great deal for $20. Nice shots.
Thanks Erick.
Your food shots.. yummy.. Sooo glad you took photos cuz my friends and I went for dinner and I couldn't describe the food to my other friends..so your pics are proof of the food there since i really didn't know 1/2 of what i ate..
Thanks Shun Wah. Wendell wants to go for dinner next time. Hopefully I can get more pix.
I must go to this restaurant. I wrote it down the name so I won't forget it. Everything look wonderful to me.
Akemi, I hope Mariko takes you the next time you're here.
