CQ's gonna borrow my dehydrator so this will be the last dehydrator post for awhile. I can't wait to see what she comes up with!
Wendell's friend gave him a small shibi (yellowfin tuna - I had to look it up). He put a little Hawaiian salt on it and let it dry for 8 hours.
Sorry, I don't really eat fishy stuff, so can't tell you how it tastes, but looks good huh!
After the fish was done, I washed the trays (which is a bitch btw) and put on some li hing powdered Fuji apples.
To me, it came out just "okay". I think it's too soft . . . didn't have the crunch action like the mango did. At least Les liked it though.

Both look good! I always enjoyed eating dried aku when I was home. I suppose the choices of things to dry are endless. I'm interested to see what CQ comes up... :)
I might be the only one in my family who doesn't eat dried aku, Betty.
yum!
Da shibi looks so ono. Throw um ova da grill to papa'a skoshi kine mo ono. Do you use a scrub brush to clean da trays? -lance
hummm, I wonder if you salt it like you do for mango "seed" to get all the moisture out...maybe then it will come out dry ?? I still say you should make mango sluuppppp seed .... almost pau..green mangoes...
Yum dried ahi! In the fish markets dried aku is around $25 a pound.
Hahaha, thanks Kat!
Ohhh Lance that sounds good. I'll suggest it to Wendell. I did use this brush once but the bristles that fell off stayed stuck on the tray and ended up on some of the jerkey in the next batch. So now I just give the trays a good soak before I scrub.
Didi, after CQ pau with the dehydrator I'll lend it to you. You can try experiment. I bet you can come up with some good stuff!
I know Erick . . . I heard they were going for $25 a pound!!
That japanese brush you use is weak. Those bristles always fall off. LOL!!!! Get some tough bristles ones at Longs. Works great. -lance
Wow!!!$25 a pound...have to take out a bank loan for that!
I liked the apples better than the ahi :-)
Ooooh, Lance . . . now you tell me! Hahahaha!
Unreal yah, Betty!
Awww, thanks Les.
