Shinshu Kyokai Bon Dance - 7/18/2009

Night-time photography continues to be a challenge for me. In fact it drives me mad. When Erick, Susie and I went to the bon dance at Shinshu Kyokai this past Saturday, I decided to check out the high ISO capabilities of my 5D Mark II.

These first few pictures were shot with flash at 400 to 1,000 ISO.
The next three were shot at 4,000 ISO without a flash.
The following were all shot flashless at 6,400 ISO.

Whoa, 6,400 ISO and no flash. That is an awesome camera. Great collection of shots, I feel like I am there with them.

Wow, very nice and flashless too. Those are the best ISO 6400 flashless photos I have ever seen. Mine at ISO 3200 has polka dots all over. Amazing high ISO! Great flashless shots!

Awesome shots! You've captured the essence of the dance. Question, is Bon and Obon the same thing? I spent time in Okinawa and was a member of an Eisa group and most of our performances were during Obon

Thanks everyone.

Erick, your Nikon still serves you very well.

foto.bongbong, I think bon and obon are the same. They use the honorific "o" in front of some words, but I don't know why.

Shun-Wah, the first set of pictures were done WITH flash including the two kids sitting on the ground.
