More J Shop Stuff

So expensive. But I feel like I'm in Japan when I'm in this store.

We went to J Shop twice this past week to pick up lunch.

Mich had this bento on Tuesday. She liked it a lot.

She had this bento yesterday. She said that it was good, but she liked the other one better.

Mich said that she's gonna try this one next time.

Me, I gotta wait until the end of March . . . I'm dieting again. Right now, it's salads, tofu and soups for me.

Pokipine's Cocoon

I'm so relieved that Pokipine transformed without a mishap.  But ho da ugly he came. He looks like a dried up leaf now.

Not sure how long before he becomes a butterfly. I'm guessing 1 to 2 weeks. I feel like putting a drop of crazy glue to make sure he doesn't fall off. Will update you every few days or so.

Pokipine

I named the caterpillar Pokipine.

Pokipine spent last night crawling around and crawling around trying to find a good spot to hang from. I transferred him from the mayonnaise jar to a plastic container with a cover. I figured he would like to attach himself to the flat cover.

But nooooo.  He picked this vine. It's so weak and slack. I ended up scotch taping the two ends to the container so that it would be more taut. Hope he'll be okay.

Gulf Fritillary Caterpillar

Geri found a couple of these caterpillars in my yard this past weekend. After she found them, I went and looked and found one.

Mine is in a mayonnaise jar right now.

Geri texted me this photo last night.  One of hers is already hanging.  !!!!!!   I'm so curious to see the butterfly it turns into!  Cross your fingers!!

Google Friend Connect

I don't really know what this means, but just in case it affects you, Blogger sent out this notification recently. I don't think it will "improve the experience" for me, but I just hope that it doesn't make it humbug for  you . . . especially in this my Year of the Boring.

In 2011, we announced the retirement of Google Friend Connect for all non-Blogger sites. We made an exception for Blogger to give readers an easy way to follow blogs using a variety of accounts. Yet over time, we’ve seen that most people sign into Friend Connect with a Google Account. So, in an effort to streamline, in the next few weeks we’ll be making some changes that will eventually require readers to have a Google Account to sign into Friend Connect and follow blogs.

As part of this plan, starting the week of January 11, we’ll remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. At the same time, we’ll remove non-Google Account profiles so you may see a decrease in your blog follower count.

We encourage you to tell affected readers (perhaps via a blog post), that if they use a non-Google Account to follow your blog, they need to sign up for a Google Account, and re-follow your blog. With a Google Account, they’ll get blogs added to their Reading List, making it easier for them to see the latest posts and activity of the blogs they follow.

We know how important followers are to all bloggers, but we believe this change will improve the experience for both you and your readers.

String Thing

This is a string basket/thing that I got at the swap meet. I thought it was the coolest thing, so I had to buy it. It was $1. It's probably worth $1. I no more "da eye" like my sisters.

The Vase

When my family came over to open Christmas presents last weekend, my sister Geri brought a huge hibiscus flower for Wendell's sister.

IMG_0240

A few days later the flower withered and I threw it away. As I was rinsing out the vase that she brought the flower in, I noticed this etched on the bottom of it. I decided to investigate. I couldn't believe what I found.
IMG_0333

It is a vintage (1960ish) Danish vase designed by master glass designer Per Lütken for the Holmegaard Glass Factory. Similar "15731" pieces are valued at $184.

I texted Geri and asked her how much she paid for the vase. She said she probably paid no more than $3 for it at the swap meet. I told her what I discovered and said that I would give her back the vase. No fair I keep um, yah.

Geri's husband said that soon after, he saw her looking on the bottoms of all her other vases. So funny!

Tomorrow I'll show you one of MY swap meet finds.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, PEOPLES!!!!!

All last month during my break I thought and thought, debated and debated. What was I gonna do with this blog? Quit? Again? I think I "quit" about 3 times already.  But really . . . how interesting could I make it? My life is not THAT interesting. Well, except for the time the bee got stuck in my pant's pocket. Or the time I went to Burger King instead of McDonalds by mistake. Or the time Damn Rabbit ate my beloved lemon plants. Except for stuff like that, my life is mostly mundane.

After much thought, here's what I decided.

No. 1: Never mind if I'm boring. Luckily, you're not forced to read my blog.

No. 2: I will focus on the boring and call my 2016 blog The Year of the Boring. I will try to post at least one photo a day from my boring life. And hopefully, I will still have some not-so-boring recipes that Wendell might discover. And if some not-so-boring subject comes my way, I'll share that too. And  . . . let's not forget . . . only-kinda-boring GIVEAWAYS!!  Howzdat idea? Boring? Yah.

And so . . . for Day 1 of The Year of the Boring . . . my fried mochi with shoyu/sugar which I made yesterday. I couldn't wait.
