Sorry, sorry, sorry . . . AGAIN. Just no more time. Gomen nasai. Here's just a quick synopsis of the haps in my life lately.
This is a cross section of a Meyer lemon that I bought this past weekend at the swap meet. Isn't it beautiful?? Thin skinned and and yielding so much juice. I can't help myself. I'm gonna start a third crop of plants. I've already given away over 30 plants!! Cool yah!! I've kept 2 good plants and 2 of the runts for myself. Last night I prepped a dozen seeds from this lemon. I'm also saving about 20 more seeds that I just couldn't throw away. I think I might have a seed-hoarding problem.
I saw this shirt at the swap meet. I just laaaaaughed and laaaaaghed. I woulda bought it but it's a 2X Large. I'm big but not that big . . . yet. If you no more nothing to do this Sunday (hahaha), go to Aloha Swap Meet. They got a lot of snacks and stuff that you can buy for gifts. Some are even prepackaged with tags!
No other pictures for you, but more haps:
Our solar water heater broke. We've been without hot water for two days. We're gonna get a new one, but not until Friday. In the meantime, we're boiling water and putting um in buckets for us to shower with.
You ever see "panettone" at the markets? I've always wondered about um but never bought one. CQ brought one to work last week. It was good. It kinda tasted like a Portuguese sweet bread/fruit cake hybrid.
On a sad note, grandpa is in the hospital again. He just got admitted last night. Hopefully, everything will be okay.
That's it for now. I'll be wrapping presents this week. In case I don't get a chance to return here soon, I'd like to wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Anybody want a "tree"? The six plants in the front are my better ones. They're going to new homes today. I still have some more if anybody wants one, although they're a bit smaller. Let me know: JalnaA@aol.com
If you're not ready for a plant now though no worry. I'm thinking of doing another crop if I can get more Meyer lemons from the swap meet next time I go.
OMG, I feel as if I've been in hibernation for awhile and now that I'm up, I'm sooooo behind in life and I don't have enough time to catch up. Aiyaiyai. And so . . . without further ado . . . more pictures from Japan!!
Here's my sneaky train shot on the morning of our 6th day on our way to Ueno.
After arriving, we stopped by this bakery for a quick bite to eat first.
Here's what we got. Mine is the french toast thing in the middle. It was kinda junk. Needed maple syrup or something.
Our first stop was Ueno Park.
After visiting the park we headed across the street towards Ameyoko Market. I thought this "walk" signal was funny.
Here's Les looking at these vending machines.
Here's Les spending some money in a vending machine.
Here's Les spending more money in a machine.
More money.
I think she spent around 10 bucks trying to get a particular toy.
Here's the entrance to Ameyoko Market where we were guarantee gonna find the candies that people asked us to bring back.
Unfortunately, we didn't find any of the candies . . . not one.
But we did find this place where for 1000 yen, this guy would fill a bag full of assorted candies for you. Leslie told me ahead of time that after he gets done filling your bag, you are supposed to yell "motto, motto" (more, more) and then he would add a little bit more. So, of course, after he filled our bag I yelled, "Motto, motto!!!" really loud. Guess what happened. He said, "No." Hah? Ho, da rude. Les said we got jipped.
Anyway, after not finding our candies and after getting jipped we walked into this restaurant for lunch.
I really, really liked our choice!
We then headed home to unload and rest up.
In the evening we headed out to Ginza to look for the restaurant featured in the movie "Jiro Dreams of Sushi", not to eat there (it starts at $300/plate), but just to get a picture of the restaurant. If you haven't seen the movie, make sure you do, and watch it in HD. The cinematography is unreal.
First, we stopped at Negishi for dinner.
We had to wait outside for a table, so the girl brought us some tea!
Leslie ordered the Negishi Set.
I ordered the Hamburger Steak Stew.
Then on we went searching for Jiro's restaurant.
We looked and looked, walked and walked. We narrowed down the location and asked for directions at every shop on the block (almost asking at the same shop twice). We just couldn't find it. We almost gave up. But I'm glad we didn't. We finally sorta found it. We had actually passed by this place several times. It turned out that because the restaurant was closed, the gate on the left blocked us from even getting to and seeing the restaurant itself. It was a bit disappointing, but for me it was okay. Just getting this shot of Leslie next to the sign was enough to say "mission accomplished"
On our way back home we stopped by Shinjuku for just a little while. Now talk about disappointing. When I took this shot I never even noticed the "Used Camera" sign on the top right. I woulda so wanted to check it out had I seen it then. Bummahs.
But nooooooo, I neva see um, so here we are on our way back home.
Next: Shibuya
I had a bad night last night. Couldn't get the gala galas out. Wheezing and not being able to catch a breath brought about fits of coughing. Coughing caused spasms of pain in my lower back. It was relentless.
At around 3:30 a.m. Landon went out to Safeway and bought this. Within seconds of drinking a capful, it brought relief. I couldn't believe it. A little wheezing still remained, but I could breathe deeply without coughing. I slept until 8:00 a.m. this morning.
Lan also bought this extended release pills, but since I liked how fast the liquid worked I just took another swig of it just now instead. It's amazing.
Anyway, my back's all messed up so I'm staying home from work today. Judging from past experience, it'll be at least another 2 weeks before I'm back to normal. Good news is I'm done with Christmas card picture taking. Bad news is I'm not done with Christmas shopping.
Same thing happened to me last year. I wish more people here would wear those mask things so that I wouldn't be embarrassed if I were to wear um. I'm seriously thinking of putting um on next cold season so that this doesn't happen again.
