It must be lychee season because the swap meet is loaded with them.
Most come from Waipahu. I think. Or Wahiawa. I always get the two mixed up.
There are always samples to taste, and depending on the seller will go for either $4/pound or $5/pound.
My sisters had already bought a couple bags each from two different sellers when we came upon . . .
this seller.
Their lychee came from the Big Island, and according to my sister Geri, this lychee is a different kind of sweet . . . a more ono kind of sweet.
So if you're into lychee, now is the time to go swap meet! No forget . . . go early before get HOT.

Must be Wahiawa, because lychee needs a lot of water and coolness. It grows well in Nuuanu too. My parents had two lychee trees in their yard and it was so sweet, but we eventually had to sell the house. 😢 So, even though I crave it, it is so difficult for me to pay for lychee. LOL. But, I've been blessed with generous neighbors who share their harvest with my family.

Kat, there was one seller the other weekend whose lychee were so red they looked like strawberries!
Our neighbors have this huge lychee tree,no need buy,they bless us everytime.Dis year bumper crop.

Maybe da Big Island ones taste better just like Big Island coffee does. The rich volcanic soil.

We have neighbors who have gigantic trees. Past several years, even though they had lychee, those dang green parrots ate ALL before they even ripened. I think this year, because there were bumper crops everywhere, the parrots didn't completely strip the trees. Our neighbors had to pick them a little green just to get a start on the parrots.

I miss lychee so much. I can get them locally sometimes, but gotta drive really far. Wish I was back home!
holy crap! Dr J gave me a big bag last month too, he wanted to trim his huge tree. He ended up with a crapload of lychee. had lychee coming out of my ears!
V, those parrots!! Awhile back I went to take pictures at the bon dance across Central Union Church and saw the parrots returning to the big tree at dusk. Had millions!!
