My daughter ate there this summer, but I don't think she had scallops.
Yes, rather sad. I only ate there a couple of times and learned to order from the waitress rather than take from the floating boats - fresher and hot from the pan. If and when they re-open, I'll go back, just to boost their business, but I will stay away from the China stuff. Dang Chinese - might be a conspiracy to poison, or they really don't give a hoot about anybody except making money.
I tried sushi (hamachi don) from a little sushi place next to Bogarts in that little shopping complex on Monsarrat with the terrible parking. It was excellent, and very reasonable in price! I love hamachi. My daughter said their sashimi is good. She is a sashimi fanatic so, must be.
j: only time I am glad I have seafood allergies so have never eaten there, but I had my Hep shot many years ago luckily. There was concern at our hotel about that kind of stuff so they were being proactive. I wonder if Genki will ever recover from this. Mainland chains have recovered from all kinds of food diseases but will Genki? We're a smaller population so memories will be longer. They'll need a really good PR company to change their image. -N

It wasn't an employee, Mark. It was raw scallops . . . served to customers. They cleaned up the place, but not sure if they have to pass an inspection or something in order to open up again. But I wonder if people will return.
Lucky thing I don't eat raw scallops.
I would have never thought Genki restaurants would be the place where people got Hep A from. But as the Health Dept. said, "the product is widely distributed", "mainly on Oahu".
Good thing kids didn't get sick...the count of people would've been much greater than now.

Genki Sushi is a victim as much as individual consumers are. It is noteworthy that we have not heard of any Genki employee contracting Hep A. The economic impact must be really great - not just the company, but all the employees who are not working until they re-open. I hope they're back in business soon and the community will support them.
I think kids now get the Hep A shots as part of their regular immunizations so that's why we haven't heard about kids getting sick.
Mmiissee, I think it's so amazing how they pinpointed it. And yes good thing no kids.
Anon, I didn't know the scallops came from the Philippines. I just assumed it was China.
