I became curious about Victoria Inn after my recent Kaimuki outing, so this morning me and my mom checked it out. This is Flo. She's been working there for 37 years!
We got there at about 8:30 a.m. and good thing 'cause it started to get packed by the time we left. I guess as Marvin said, people still do go there to eat.
My mom had the Japanese breakfast ($6.50). She really enjoyed it. I tasted the miso soup and it was very good.

I know. I know. I've written about this problem before. Can't remember
when, but I'm sure I've complained about this in another post.

Very cool! I haven't been there in probably 25 yeats, I don't even know they were still open. Great food shots.
My family used to go all the time to Victoria Inn. Used to drink in the little bar there too. But over the years, service was getting bad. Forgotten orders, stuff reheated by microwave since they were let set and went cold. Just stopped going.
Is Nancy still the owner? Used to eat at her place at the bottom of Union Mall. I forget the name. Used to have delicious tripe stew there.
Hahahah!!! THAT'S HER!!! FLO!!! Ahhh...good to know some things don't change huh?
Glad you went to try it. I've seen the place from the outside and also saw you Kaimuki photo of it and has been curious about it too. Nice shot of the menu.
I'm so glad we went. My mom really enjoyed it. Nate, I'm not sure about Nancy, but I know what you mean about the service. We were lucky that we got there early enough that our food came in a timely manner. We did wait and wait for our bill though. While we were waiting we noticed members of a family who were seated but never got served . . . no water, no menu . . . nothing. I gave up waiting for the bill and just walked up to the register. At about the same time the family walked out. Unfortunately for them, they had just gone through the very same thing at Big City Diner. I guess everybody was eating out on this Memorial Day holiday so the restaurants were busy.
love the menu. like restaurants here that advertise they serve home cooked meals.
I like it when there's lots of tofu in the miso soup. The portions look big also. When I was younger, I always ordered the Japanese breakfast from the Flamingo restaurant. Sad that they've closed. Your corned beef hash looks soo good.
I'm still going through your archives. Love the photo of the Japanese breakfast! It brings back good memories because we always went to Victoria Inn for breakfast on Christmas morning, as well as other days, and I always ordered their Japanese breakfast. Their fried fish was so ono. Since they closed, I have not been able to find any restaurant which comes close to serving a good Japanese breakfast as Victoria Inn. Let me know if you find one.
