Sumo Citrus

I was at Palama Market yesterday and saw this! $2.99/pound is a pretty good price so I got excited. They came prepacked in bags of 4. My bag cost me $5.45.

IMG_2435

It's not the sweetest sumo orange that I've ever tasted, but it was juicy, and at $2.99 a pound, well worth it to me.

Jason's Banana Bread Recipe

Geri finally got around to emailing us the recipe for her son's ono banana bread. Jason also makes a good cheesecake which I previously blogged about here

It was perfect timing because I had two overripe bananas on our kitchen counter and a bagful in the freezer.

IMG_2409

As you can see I added some chopped walnuts . . . maybe about 1 cup. The bread came out very moist and dense . . . just how I like it.

Don’t use flimsy pans – use good pans

It's India!

This is from Les:

Hi people!! I'm in INDIA!!! I've been here for a couple of days so far and it's been awesome. I actually boarded a train yesterday - Palace on Wheels, which will be taking us around India for the next week. I've run into a little problem though, it's very difficult post processing on the train, I tend to get a bit carsick. Sheesh. Getting old sucks. So I think I may have to wait till i get home to blog.

You can follow my travels on Instagram, I have a public account: les11u so anyone can follow. I'm in Jaipur today!!

On-the-Road Again

No, not me.  It's Leslie who's abroad again. Can you guess where she's at? She hasn't been able to blog while on her trip yet due to bad internet connections, but crossing my fingers, maybe soon.

Swap Meet Haul

It was sooo muggy yesterday at the swap meet that my glasses kept fogging up. The cloud cover totally saved us from it being too unbearable, and we were able to have fun digging and searching and finding stuff.

I totally need to take care of my dry feet so this caught my eye. It's from Israel and was $2.
IMG_2396

Ginger was $2.
IMG_2394

Onions also $2.
IMG_2392

1 pound of beans for $2.
IMG_2391

Bob, a regular seller at the swap meet sold this at a just-for-me price of $1.
IMG_2389

Me and Sweetie split a case of Spam 8 cans/$15.
IMG_2387

Kona's usual treats. $7 each.
IMG_2381

This was $2.
IMG_2378

I wasn't sure what this was, but it intrigued me so I got it. 50 cents. Turns out it's a scissors which you slide through to cut.
IMG_2375

This was $6. It's yummy.
IMG_2374

Stabilo (made in Germany) markers were $1 for the bunch.
IMG_2372

This was $1. There's a gal at the swap meet with a $1/item green tarp. It was on the tarp. It's one of my favorite places to stop at.
IMG_2369

I used to love to play with this kine puzzle when I was a kid. I got it for Colin. It was $2.50.
IMG_2368

This is an empty tin for me to put watercolor paint pans in.  It was 50 cents.
IMG_2366

This Goo Gone was $1.
IMG_2384

This bobble-head Baymax was $1 (another just-for-me price).

Café Kaila

Cleta had some fabric for me to pass on so we met up at Café Kaila a few days ago.

As usual, there was a line and a sign-up sheet in front (which is why I'd never been there before), but we got in fairly quickly.
IMG_2334

Here's my Lox and Bagles ($12.25).  I liked it a lot.
IMG_2352

Here's Cleta's Italian Omelet ($12.25). She gave me a bit to taste. It was good.

Spare Fabric

Thank you, thank you, De, for the tip about the Kokua Line article regarding the gal who is in need of fabric.  I contacted her and will be dropping off my stuff soon!

IMG_2302

If you have extra fabric and are interested in donating them, here is an excerpt from the article:

“I am also writing to ask if you would find a small space to let your faithful followers know that we are in need of fabric. We have an amazing angel who is 92 years old and loves to make small quilts … So far she has sewn over 900 small quilts that fit perfectly into the shoeboxes. It would be marvelous if any of your readers would share some of their fabric stash to provide these precious quilts for the children around the world, who could then wrap themselves in aloha from Hawaii.”
Anyone who has fabric to donate can contact Marilyn Gilbert by email at gil.aloha@hawaiiantel.net, phone at 261-6087 or mail at 247 Akiohala St. Kailua, HI 96734.

Latest

For lack of anything better to post, here are my latest watercolor paintings. None are my original drawings.

The top left drawing below is Kellogsloops'. I actually traced that one. I was anxious to try painting it and didn't have the patience to draw it freehand. The other three are copies of drawings by Demizu Posuka.
IMG_2267

I also traced the dragon picture on the right below. It's from a neat drawing/coloring book that I found at the swap meet which I eventually gave to Colin.

I copied Loish for the top left painting and Demizu for the bottom paintings. I don't know who the original artist is for the top middle. I saw it in the background of a YouTube video and liked it.

Obento Rinka

I passed by Obento Rinka on my way to Asian Grocery and saw through their window that they were open and loaded with a variety of bento.
