Yum! My go-to bento place nowadays is Kokorotei next to JCCH on Beretania. I used to always get their ginger pork bento, yum! But now I love their chikuwa - deep fried fishcake. I order the nori deluxe with only fishcake (otherwise it has breaded fish too) on tuna mayo rice. Cheap, delicious, and filling. The only problem is limited hours 11-2 and 4-7. Somehow I get hungry for it at 3:00 pm when they are closed.
Did i mention to you....before they opened...they used to order a lot, a lot from us...one guy even mentioned to me (they used to do phone orders)..that they "needed" to try EVERYTHING on our menu ... our owner said, "it is the best compliment for a new place to try the competitions food before they decide on menu"
j: I liked that their portions got bigger and I can order an extra piece of meat for add'l $ which I don't mind. I left their place twice still hungry. But last time the service was really sucky and I had a toddler next to me and being a kid he was lying down by me and running around. Very annoying, so I just gave up on them. (this was after the lunch rush)-N
One thing I regret about growing up on Oahu. I lived three blocks away from Black Point. I should have got into spear fishing, netting and all things sea food. And picking opihi off da rocks! I could have brought home the sea food dinner for free every day after school. But I was more interested in surfing every day after school.

I've only been there once and I swear, I can't recall what I ordered.
I like the manager, we used to always go to his lunchwagon. Best mushroom chicken in town, I know it's not a Japanese dish.
