My Dad taught me long ago to always keep a jacket in my car. And yes he even did that in Hawaii. But it was like a light rain jacket.
On the mainland it's even more important, because we do not have warm rain! A storm is normally always cold!
If I know I am road travelling where it could even snow in the winter, I pack a heavy winter jacket, a blanket and extra water and snacks in case I get stuck. It's a whole other way of living here on the mainland! And sometimes it's actually about survival!
