My Favorite One-Dollah Watch

This is my favorite one-dollah watch so far. I got it at a church rummage sale a few weeks ago. When I saw the label "Skagen Denmark" I thought that I had scored a European-made watch.

Turns out, however, that Fossil bought out the company back in 2012, so I think the watches are made in the United States.

Still, I like it a lot. It has a Japan quartz movement and runs really well.

I like the mesh band and the cool clasp.

Most of all, I like how slim it is.

Susan's Quick Kamaboko Dip

I got the word about "dip in the lounge" just in time. Good thing I didn't hesitate to go check it out . . . might've been too late!

I asked Susan for the recipe and OMG . . . so easy. I'm totally making this for Mother's Day.

2 blocks kamaboko, grated (if you can)
1/3 cup round onion, minced
garlic salt
mayo

Tole you . . . easy, hah!

Kahai Street Kitchen Again

We just can't seem to get enough of Kahai Street Kitchen food.

The Crispy Pork Belly was ono, but the vinegar sauce was sweeter than I had expected . . . kinda namasu-ish.  I prefer a more fish sauce flavor.

Crispy Pork Belly ( $9.95)
Oven roasted pork belly, sliced and dusted with flour, deep fried crispy and tossed in our vinegar, garlic and black pepper sauce, with tomatoes and sweet onions

I only took a bite of the Braised Boneless Short Ribs. It was melt-in-the-mouth tender.

Beaded Watch Bands

I finished! It came out cute, though I'm not sure how the loops will hold up.

IMG_0044

The beads for this one came from an unfinished project that I found at the swap meet which I took apart.

This bracelet was a Randy buy. I  modified it by adding the watch face and a few charms to it.

I did the same to this one.

Watch Band Project

Most of the bands on the One Dollah Watches that I've been finding are all bust-up. Watch bands are too expensive for me to be buying, so I've been trying to make them.

My current project involves wire wrapping. I'm really not good at it, so this past week I watched a whole bunch of YouTube videos like the one below.

This is the watch face. It'll be for coworker Susan. I took her wrist measurement a few days ago.

After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally made a decent piece.
IMG_0008

I made this one using a pin that already had a loop on one end.

This is cool yah.

Not real sure how to put it together yet, but we'll see how it goes.

Japanese Hot Mustard Paste

This is our favorite mustard-in-a-tube. We have other brands/types in our stash, but this has become the go-to one. I think it's $2something when on sale at Marukai.

"きわだつ辛さ" translates to "awesome hotness" . . . hahaha!

Kahai Street Kitchen Porchetta

This was a Daily Special so is not served everyday.

I'll let the description speak for itself . . . it was so ono.

Porchetta ($12.75), a hearty portion of slow-roasted pork belly roll stuffed with ground pork, herbs and mushrooms and sliced to order with sautéed Hamakua mushrooms and a mushroom wine demi-glace.

Maple Bacon Donut

I had heard that Donut King was known for their Maple Bacon Donut ($3.25) so I bought one on my recent trip there. It turned out to be not too much of a hit at my house. After our initial bite-sized taste test (which is kinda how we do pastry here), nobody returned for more. I ended up throwing away half. Which is a good thing, I guess.
