Parents in the Wild

This collection of photos was sent to me in an email from Wendell's friend Ross. They're all so, so cute that I left every single one in.

Although it's pretty clear that I didn't take these photos, I feel that I must state: I DIDN'T TAKE THESE PHOTOS.

My Fried Saimin

I made this fried saimin using Hamura Saimin noodles that my friend The-Other-Leslie brought back from Kauai.

I boiled the saimin, ran it under water and set it aside.

I stir fried some eggs, lup cheong, string beans, green onion, and celery in a bit of oil, oyster sauce, shoyu and couple packs of powdered dashi. I also added about two spoonfuls of rayu chili oil.

Then I threw in the saimin noodles. It was not bad considering that I (the non-cook) made it.

Oroshi Ponzu

This Oroshi Ponzu is good stuff! I bought it at Marukai. Unfortunately, I don't remember how much I paid for it.

IMG_6870

It is a citrus sauce with grated daikon in it.

Landon used it in this steak dish that he made. He just grilled the steak and added the ponzu, fried garlic chips, green onions and shibazuke tsukemono.

Crab

It's been ages since I've seen one of these crabs. It's called a seven-eleven crab. Landon went diving for tako after work yesterday at Makapuu and saw it in about five feet of water.

Orijen Dog Treat

When Kona was under the weather and not eating well, an anonymous commenter recommended that I try Orijen dog treats.

I got this bag for $14.50 from Amazon.

I chose the Original Treat which is made of chicken, turkey and flounder. There were more varieties to choose from including Angus beef, duck, lamb, and others.
IMG_6837

They are made-in-Canada very light-weight, freeze-dried nuggets. Kona sniffed his first piece suspiciously . . . because that's just how he is . . . and after his initial taste test, wolfed down the next few pieces.

Kona's appetite is back to normal, so I don't really need to buy him "special" treats, but he really likes this so I'll probably order more . . . maybe the Angus beef next time.  Thanks for the tip, Anon!

Grammar Lesson

My friend Ross shared this story. I couldn't find anything on Snopes to confirm or debunk it. Either way it's funny.

No English dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between these two words.  In a recent linguistic competition held in London and attended by, supposedly, the best in the world, Samdar Balgobin, a Guyanese man, was the clear winner with a standing ovation which lasted over 5 minutes.

The final question was: How do you explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that
is easy to understand? Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED.

Here is his astute answer:

When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. When you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED. And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!!!

He won a trip around the world and a case of 25 year old Scotch.
