Korean Festival - 7/12/2008

Beautiful costumes. Ono food. Choke people. Where's the shade?

The shuttle service was the best. We parked at KCC, got on the waiting shuttle and was off.

First thing I noticed was . . . it was hot.

Me and Susie scarfed a huge Korean plate lunch right away and still had room for shave ice.

This is mine . . . azuki beans, condensed milk and huge mochi balls!

Mufi was there . . .

and this spike-headed guy and his girlfriend. . .
and this famous Korean some-kind-of star. He even stood still for me to take this shot.

Front row and center from left to right: Susie, Erick, Sze, Fioni and Celia, all right-eyed shooters. That leaves me out.

One more photographer.

Kim chee eating contest. I took this shot just before an officiant stood right in front of me,

so that the rest of my shots look like this, where I'm trying to shoot from between this videographer's tripod. It's a wonder he never scolded me.

Martial arts demonstration. I was so intent on framing this shot that I don't even know how he got so high.

Me and Susie were admiring the woodwork of the drums, and this lady kindly posed for me.

More drummers.
The owner of these fingers came all the way from Korea to perform.

These guys were so neat. They would dance around and beat on drums while twirling these hat streamers.
Swan. She must've been hot.
This might be my favorite shot of the day. I so lucked out with the way the light illuminated her dress, her eyes and the fan.

And finally, the costumes. I loved the colors and the material and how the dresses flowed.

Kaneohe Higashi Hongwanji Bon Dance- 7/5/2008

I can't believe it's Bon Dance season already. I can't believe I drove all the way to Kaneohe to take pictures. I'm glad I did though. I loved the "family" feel of this gathering.

Eyes of Hawaii Exhibit - 7/1/2008

I belong to the Eyes of Hawaii Photo Club . . . sort of. I haven't gone to a single meeting yet, but I DO pay my dues. They have an exhibit of photos taken by some of its members which will be displayed this whole month at Canon Hawaii on Ward. Here are just a few. The first is of my buddy Erick and his tiger photograph. He took it at our own zoo through a fence!

Lunch with My Mom - 7/4/2008

My mom was craving shrimp wonton min from Asia Manoa so I took her there today.
Here's my mom. She's saying, "Don't take my picture; my hair's all flat from the hat." If you see my mom, tell her you saw her picture on my blog and she looks so pretty . . . only thing is her hair is all flat.
Here's the shrimp wonton min. It came with the skinny Chinese noodles which I like. My mom says she prefers the fatter Japanese noodle. It was ono.

Manoa Falls Hike - 6/28/2008

I love to walk. I hate to hike. I don't like the dampness. I don't like the mud. I don't like the mosquitoes. But when Judith said she was thinking of doing a Manoa calendar also, Susie and I decided to try to do the Manoa Falls hike. I did love the moss-covered rocks. I did love seeing birds I'd never seen before and hearing their songs. I did love seeing huge ferns and strange-looking trees. Mostly, I did love spending time with Susie who enjoys taking pictures as much as I do. It was fun.

Reaching the falls, however, only substantiated the saying that, "It's not the destination, but the journey that counts." I would call it more of a trickle than a waterfall, a bit disappointing. On top of that, this journey which usually takes normal people about an hour to complete took us 3 hours to finish, not because we are two old ladies who are slow in maneuvering ourselves, but because as Susie says, "We choose to go that slow, OKAY!"
