French Press Coffee Making
My nephew Daniel makes really good coffee, and he does it with a coffee press. I wanted to copy him so when I saw this OXO French Press Coffee Maker at the swap meet for $3, I jumped on it.
I went online and found all kinds of instructions for pressing coffee, and I try to do everything they say, but . . . meh . . . mines doesn't come out like Daniel's.
Maybe I'll try and get some good coffee next time instead of using whatever was on sale at Marukai.

Glad that I like "common" coffee. You are so adventurous!
j: I've been a french press user for a long time now, love it! I only drink espresso type, dark roasts. Check to see what kinda beans he's using....grinding fresh beans makes a huge difference in taste...so does the amount of grounds he uses...and the type of grind he does too. Really picky drinkers recommend NOT using boiling water but a certain temperature. Me, I gave that all up and just buy already ground coffee but it's always the small bags like Lions and yes, whatever is on sale in that type. I also found that at McDonald's, if I get a regular coffee and have them add 3 espresso shots (told ya I love strong coffee) it tastes as good as Starbuck's and way,way cheaper -N
Try making ice coffee with it.. That's always good now that it is summer.
Hope it works out for you, we have a French press pot, but I don't really care for the coffee that it brews
Hmmm... My son-in-law is coming this summer and he's a real coffee epicurean. It's a good thing my cousin Walt gave us some beans he roasted himself.
Aunty, I'm glad I found that coffee press for cheap.
N, he uses good beans and grinds them himself with a special-kine grinder.
I do, Susan! I do about 8 cups worth at a time and put it straight into the 'fridge after it cools off.
Yah, Kat, my morning coffee is made with our Keurig. My pressed coffee I drink cold.
Kay, Walt never ceases to amaze me.
My favorite coffee, that is even made in Hawaii is lion Coffee. They roasted it in their shop right behind our old Wigwam and Marsh Company Stores on Kalani street. When had Kona winds could smell 'em roasting! Yummers!

My favorite was Chocolate Macadamia. And Vanilla Macadamia.
How cool to enjoy coffee aromas at the stores, Mark!
I've been using a french press for years. My tips are: use a coarse grind, after the water boils, let it sit for 30 seconds, set a timer for 3 minutes, and pour in a small amount of water to make a paste. Fill it up and once the timer goes off, press it. Boiling water can make the coffee bitter and letting it steep for too long can too. I hope this helps.
Whoa Alibaba! Thanks! Gonna try do all that next time. Coarse grind . . . hmmmmm . . .
j: everyone has found a way that works for them, it's a matter of what you like to do and it takes time to figure that out. Even knowing the perfect grind takes a bit to figure out (which is why I gave up grinding) what works in a press. I gave up on Keurig cuz those little pods gets pricey or seems to anyway vs. buying the gourmet coffee. Though they are quite good in flavor. I think cuz I made them at espresso strength so it took a while to make a big cup of coffee....good luck on your quest! BTW I was looking at our yearbook online and didn't know you worked on the school's paper...I did too for just the sophomore year. Still like Mr. Matsuo. -N
Hi Jalna- you should try the cold brewing method with your french press. I started doing it recently, using that "Cafe Du Monde" coffee that a lot of Thai places use for their coffee drinks. You get a much smoother-tasting, less acidic coffee "concentrate" that's perfect to make iced/thai coffee with. Here's a YouTube video you can check out: https://youtu.be/_-QeeDPEAlU
I pretty much do the same thing he does, except mines is a bit stronger 1:4 coffee-water ratio.
Cheers! -Karen
N, you can view our yearbook online?? Yah I was with Mr. Matsuo for 2 years. He was so young, yah!
OMG, Karen!! That is PERFECT!!
