Roosevelt Class of '70 - 60th Birthday Bash

Here are a few photos from the Roosevelt High School Class of '70 birthday celebration that was held at Hale Ikena this past Saturday.

Swap Meet 8/12/2012

Remember this rolly thing that I bought at the swap meet last week for $10?  I just looooove it.  It's so much easier rolling things around than carrying them.  I shoulda got one a long time ago.

 


With Sweetie's help I was even able to stick this pan into the bag.  Wendell had asked me to pick one up for him.  It was $8.  As soon as Wendell saw it after he got home, he asked me to buy him another one so that he can have one for the front yard and one for the back.  He said it looks well made.


I bought these for 50 cents each . . . one for Colin and one for me. 


This is a computer wrist support.  I bought it for $1 'cause I thought it was cute.  I'm using it now.  I'm not really liking it.


My sister-in-law Diem makes something similar to this and I really like hers.  Last week I saw this at the swap meet and wondered if it was the same. I bought a container, but I never got to taste it 'cause before I knew it, it had disappeared from the fridge.  So today I made sure that I ate a bit of it as soon as I got home.  It's good . . . just like Diem's!  I'm not sure how much it was . . . $2.50 or $3.50.  I kinda wasn't paying attention because . . .


there was a lady standing right next to me who was buying five of these.  So of course I had to buy one too.  I busted it open right away and shared it with my sisters.   IT WAS SOOOO GOOD I went back and bought these two more.  Sweetie got some for her family too.


It kinda tastes like gau but better.  The lady said it has young coconut and cheese in it.  Cheese? Maybe we heard wrong. Doesn't taste cheesy at all.  Anyway it was $1.


I also bought this bag of cut-up vegetables for $3.  I was gonna make some pinakbet with it and . . .


with this chicharone that I got for $8.  I never made the pinakbet 'cause Wendell came home with some steaks and grilled them instead.  He said he's gonna use my ingredients for tomorrow's dinner.


These avocado were 3/$2.00.  Good deal yah!


I bought cucumbers again and already made this from um.


I also got a bag of these baby eggplant for $1.  I'm gonna make some tsukemono with these too.

Wendell's Tuna Casserole

Wendell's made this several times already.  He got the recipe from "Dougie".  It's ono.


According to Dougie's e-mail:  Boil whatever pasta you want to use. Do it al dente, firm but not hard.  Drain, mix with a can of cream of mushroom soup and about a soup can amount of milk.


Add 2 cans of tuna, no need drain.  Mix in whatever veggies you want. An onion is a must.  Corn, green beans and olives work well. Make sure you drain the liquid from the veggies. Add plenty of shredded cheese - mozarella, cheddar and even cream cheese if you like. Spread into pan. Put some cheese on top. You can sprinkle parmesan on top.  Bake for 40 minutes.

Dancing

Swap Meet 8/5/2012

Geri couldn't make it yesterday, so it was just three of us at the swap meet.  The day started off cool, but eventually it got hot, hot, hot. The neatest thing was that I saw two of my coworkers there!

This was the first thing that I bought. It was kinda beat up but was only 25 cents.  I dropped it off with Colin on my way home. He could pretty much name all of the animals. 


These were 25 cents each too.


Yes, I did buy these.  I couldn't help myself. Look at the ladybugs . . . so cute.  The whole set was only $2.

What in the world is this used for?


You know my sisters and glassware . . . they just can't resist.  We did a "bundle" deal with the seller, and Sweetie was able to get all three of these items for $5.


A little later, Sweetie saw this and couldn't put it down although she knew that she didn't really need it.  So I bought it for Geri 'cause I knew that if she was with us, she woulda got it.  It was $3.


According to my notes, I paid $3 for this, but I think that's wrong.  I wouldn't have spent $3 for it.  I think it was $1.


This is my absolute favorite buy of the day.  It's lightweight, still in good shape and can hold a ton of unnecessary stuff.  It was being sold by a really nice seller who's always at the swap meet.  It was $10.


We went to Waimalu Shopping Center after the swap meet. We were surprised to see a line of people waiting to buy okazu-ya food at Kabuki Restaurant. Gotta check um out next time when no more line.


There was a whole bunch of eating places to choose from, but we ended up at Palama Market.  This is what was at the entrance. 


This is what we ended up eating.  Funny thing . . . the sellers that we got the glassware "bundle" from were also here, eating Korean shave ice.  It looked so good . . .


so I got one for us! 


It was from here and was $6.50.

Green Onion Plant

When I planted the bottom root portion of a few green onion stalks into some dirt, I really didn't know what to expect.  I kinda thought that the stems would grow back, but I didn't know that a few bulbs would appear at the tips.  What a rookie horticulturist, yah!

I think it's so cool.


I like how a few stalks got bent from my watering.  I feel like an ikebana arranger.


My sister Geri said that the seeds will fall to the ground and baby green onions will grow.  I can't wait!

Raising an Olympian - Gabby Douglas

Hah?

I went to the post office before work yesterday to mail out the Coach bag to Giveaway winner Jasmyn.  While I was there I bought a book of stamps.

Did you know that if you peel off the divider pieces like this


then you can fold up your stamps into a neat little book like this?


You neva know that hah!?  Pretty neat yeah!   Well anyway, so I'm slowly walking to my car, peeling off the pieces like how I like it, when I glance toward my car.  What I see stops me in my tracks.  There, sitting in the front passenger seat is Kona!  Whatda . . . ??  Okay, I know that I've been forgetful lately and that I do have some major senior moments . . . but I remember distinctly that I neva decide at the last minute to take Kona to work with me.

I'm like totally confused. I walk closer.  I look at the car . . . yup, white Rav 4. That's my car.  I walk closer.  I look at the dog (who's like smiling real happy now) . . . looks like Kona.  What's going on??? 

By now, I'm pretty much right in front of the car. So I look at the license plate.  Ohhhhh . . . so it's not my car.  I look at the dog.  Ohhhh, it's a golden retriever . . . but it's not Kona.  (Hey, there's a glare on the windshield, okay).   So where's my car then?  I turn around.  It seems that in my confusion, I had actually walked past my car and straight to the one with the dog in it.  Aiyaiyai. 

And here are a couple more of my senior moments:

I went to the eye doctor.  He dilated my eyes.  I just hate that.  After my exam I decided to go to the restroom before leaving.  I took the restroom key off its holder that's on the reception desk.  When I got back, I tried and tried but just couldn't get the key back onto the holder. After struggling for awhile, the receptionist finally said, "Umm . . . you're trying to get your own car keys onto the holder." 

Final one.  My working place is having a movie day for the employees.  They're renting a theater one morning for our exclusive use.  An e-mail was sent out notifying us of the details. So, I'm talking to CQ and some other coworkers and I say, "It's gonna be at Ward right?  So where is that?  At Dole?"
