Ours was safe even through the power outage and surge. My blood pressure monitor got fried - but my son said it was probably the power cord - and he was right because when I put batteries instead of using the power cord, it works again.

Wendell got a new router from Walmart on Sunday. I procrastinated as long as I could to hook it up (cause I hate new things), until on Monday Wendell said hurry up 'cause he couldn't catch something on the TV.
Kai had problems in the poop department. One night in particular, he would go out, run back in 'cause of the rain, go out, run back in, maybe about three times, until finally he braved it and stayed out until the duty was done.
So smart your son. I did try to find a different cord, but none (of the many extra that I have in a box) fit.
