I'm amazed! And I need to get this! Where did you get it? How could you tell it was self-closong? What brand is it? I want to look for it when I go to Osaka. I was thinking I wouldn't buy anything breakable but this deserves an exception.
I just wanted to let u know that thanks to your video and info about the jar, I was able to find it and bring some back! I found it at Bon Marche grocery store. (Which was terrifically lucky for my daughter who found her new favorite ice cream: Hagen Daaz individual size cup of kinako ice cream with kuromitsu sauce on the bottom and a mochi on the top.) I wasn't going to buy the jam at first becase the jar is shaped differently than what it looks like in the video. The jars I got are barrel-ish - they have a wide middle and a narrower top and bottom. But they still do the closing thing! So cool! And they are a convenient size to bring back for omiyage.
Gues what? I found it at Kaheka Don Quixote! Regular price is $3.99, so not as good a price as what you got. Had strawberry, orange marmalade, apricot, apple, and a couple blueberry.

Cute! Must be a bitty battery in the lid? I need one that OPENS the jar when it's new for my oldish hands. Linda in Kansas

Aunty, yes, from Japan. THIS glass jar needs to be kept! LOL.
Izsmom, isn't it?!
Susan, yah!!
Chet, you can buy when you go Japan!
Linda, no battery. The lid looks like a regular lid. I can't figure it out . . .
Kat, very!
Anon, I saw it on a commercial on TV in Japan and found it at a supermarket in Lalaport Expocity. The brand is Aohata. I paid 359 yen.
