I found this YouTube video by TandiArt where the artist uses Faber-Castell Gelatos and Artist Pens similar to the ones I got from Ross. Now I'm thinking I need to order me more different-colored Gelatos from Amazon if I can't find them at Ross. And I have a gift card!! Hooo hooo!! So happy!
Here are just a few photos that I took at the Special Olympic event yesterday. I decided to take my lighter-weight Fuji camera instead of my used-to-be-Precious-but-now-too-heavy-and-sometimes-no-work Canon. Although I love the picture quality of the Fuji, my lens, as expected, did not have enough reach. Still it was fun shooting and getting together with Erick and his friend Steven and do some "photography" talking. I kinda miss that.
Ever since I found the Liquitex products at Ross awhile back I've been frequently returning to the store(s) looking for more bargain-priced quality art supplies. I found this set of Faber-Castell brush pens at the Hawaii Kai Branch the other day. There was only this one pack, turned upside down kinda hidden among some sketch books. It looked as if the workers might've discovered it in their recent clean-up and had just tossed it onto the shelf.
I paid $5.99 for it. There's a similar set selling on eBay for $24.50!
The pen is wonderful at producing broad as well as fine strokes, and the color range is perfect for my use. Plus it's made with India ink so is waterproof, and I can watercolor over it.
I was really happy with my find and almost left but decided to check out the food section. Would you believe, I found this misplaced Faber-Castell gelatos set there? They're kinda like crayons but water soluble, not waxed. I've been wanting to try them out for awhile but never bought them. This Gelatos set usually sells for around $10. I paid $2.99. I tested it out on a scrap piece of watercolor paper and liked it so much that I turned it into a greeting card. No sense waste, yah!
I haven't had a chance yet, but now I like go to other Ross branches to see if they might have the gelatos in other colors. If you go to look for yourself, no forget check the food section. LOL.
Landon brought this falafel pita sandwich home for me the other day. It's from ShAloha Pita which is at the start of Kaimuki by St. Louis Drive In. Parts of the pita bread were small-kine soggy by the time I ate it, but it still was ono. The sandwich came with two sauces. I ended up having to scrape off the red one because it turned out too spicy for me.
Thanks Landon . . . even though you no even read my blog and not gonna see this. LOL.
Went to visit my buddies at my old working place again, and of course I had to drop by Kaheka Sushi. I got this Salmon Skin Salad for $9.95. It was super fresh and ono. Please do drop by if you get the chance. The hard-working sushi chef owner Mike Lee is a really nice guy and does his best to please. One note about my salad that I think I need to tell you is that he small-kine enhanced it a bit just for me so it was pretty massive and took me two sittings to finish. The shop is on the ground floor of the Kaheka Professional Center at the corner of King and Kaheka. It's recessed into the building on the Kaheka Street side and is not easy to spot while driving by. Hope you get to try it, and if you do tell Mike "hi" for me.
We went to The Counter in Kahala Mall yesterday to try their Impossible Burger. Well, me and Landon had the Impossible Burger. Wendell ate cow. This is my burger.
Landon went totally vegan. His has vegan cheese and vegan bun. Have you ever tried vegan cheese? It's kinda gross to me . . . too pasty and bland or something. Not quite sure what's wrong, but I've decided . . . nope, not for me.
I totally looooooved mine. Lan liked his too.
This is my custom burger order sheet. Luckily, Landon treated.
Kinda hard to read my photo. You might wanna check out here instead.
These are my latest greeting cards. It seems like I'm into balloons lately. I scored some black Golden Heavy Body Acrylic paints at a rummage sale this past weekend, and this is the end result.
I got two of these tubes for $2 each. Can you see the original price? $9.37!
The paint is actually too thick for my use so I thinned it out with some of this Liquitex medium that I got at Ross awhile back.
The card in the upper right is one of two that I made as a test. I used this to start, drew on the balloon shapes and then painted the background with the black Golden paint.
I think I'll be making a bunch more (until I get bored). If you think it looks cool and want one, email me at JalnaA@aol.com with your mailing address and I'll send you one!
I met Annie at Gokoku Sushi for lunch the other day. I was kinda surprised to see the wax display on the outside. I'd passed by the restaurant several times before, and I don't remember ever having seen the display. Turns out that they have new owners since September of last year, and they must've stepped up the game. I really enjoyed my meal, and I wouldn't mind going back again, especially since they give a 15% discount from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is the udon that came with my Tempura Donburi Set ($14 including tax).
Sorry, I seem to have lost the blogging mojo. Mostly it's because I don't have much to share lately. Here's where I've been spending most of my time. The middle art journal (Volume 2) is actually filled and pau. I turned the pages to a painting that I did to test out my QoR paints. Love the colors. The book on the left (Volume 3) is the current journal that I'm working in. The painting is my latest and is what I see out my window while I'm at the desk. The book on the right is my "leftover" book where I dab my brush before I rinse it. Balloons are my current greeting card projects. I'm using paint from a free Daniel Smith dot card which I got from Fisher (thanks for the scoop, Aunty).
Nothing to blog about so here's a picture of Wendell's Extra Large Wun Ton Min ($13) that he ordered at Sekiya's the other night. Sekiya's saimin is my faaaaavorite samin.
It's open and it's huge! I dropped by after visiting Fisher which is right across the street . . . next to all the homeless . . . I bought an avocado sandwich. Was good.
