Lilikoi

So huge, yah!!  The lilikoi vine(s) which it came from is taking over the neighbor's mango tree.  An average of around 10 lilikoi a day fell into our yard at one time.  They've kinda stopped now.

This photo reminds me of Kat's (Our Adventures in Japan) picture of a chestnut that she found years ago while walking to the train station. That photo is actually what started me reading her blog.  I thought it was just so cool that she could just find a chestnut on the ground while walking.  You can check out her story here

I think Kat's photo affected me a lot because there was a crossroad in my life where I could have chosen to pursue a relationship with somebody, and it might've ended up with me being the one walking to a train station in Japan and discovering a chestnut on the ground. Instead I chose the path that finds me with a giant lilikoi in the palm of my hand.  It's been a great path, and yet sometimes I wonder . . .

That lilikoi is huge, and so perfect. I used to have access to lilikoi b/c of vines growing on trees along our property boundary, but when the lot next door was sold and the trees were cut . . . there went the lilikoi! But my other neighbor actually grows lilikoi, and gives me frozen juice every now and then, which my significant other uses to brush the scones he bakes!

Lorna!! You have an "other" kinda like Wendell! That makes me smile.

Kat, my hands are actually kinda small so the lilikoi looks bigger than it actually is.

N, I was in my early 20's (before Wendell), in a city called Anjo in Japan with a tall, handsome man who barely spoke English. I had met him two years earlier and we corresponded. Long story, short: I chose Hawaii.

Didi, that was the hugest one of all.

LOL! It is, Rand!

Nice lilikoi! Just started a vine on a chain link fence, no flowers or fruit yet but the leaves look pretty.

My friend Wanda makes the most ono lilikoi butter - not sure how but it is super wonderful.

Glad you chose Hawaii. Funny how the crossroads in our life don't seem like crossroads until we are way down the road of the path we took.

I used to always pick them on my hikes up to Manoa Falls and other rain forest type areas. Like Aiea Loop Trail also and Nuuanu Valley. Yummers!

Interesting! That is one big lilikoi.

Aunty, I peeked through the fence once and saw that the neighbors had built a wire contraption for the vines to grow on, but it never took to it. Instead it went shooting up the mango tree. Lilikoi butter sounds so good. I'm glad I picked Hawaii too.

That's so neat, Mark!

Life can be so interesting, Erick.
