I picked up my computer today. Seems that I totally suck at protecting it. The guy said it looked like my antivirus program wasn't even running. Wha??? And for some reason I neva have Windows service pack 2 installed and I should've. What is that? Why didn't it just install automatically or at least tell me that I needed it? I have no clue about such things. I have no clue on how to keep on top of all these scary stuff that people do to make your life miserable.
He discovered 3 Trojans. I think 2 were java related . . . not sure. I could barely understand what he was telling me. I'm wondering why the Spybot scan that I ran just before turning my computer over to Cowabunga didn't reveal these, and instead said that everything was fine and dandy.
He also said that I had choke crap on my computer . . . though not in those exact words. He cleaned it all up. In the end he did exactly what I asked . . . no OS reinstall. He did install a free antivirus protection thing and a clean-out-all-your crap thing and a defragger. I told him that I wouldn't ever connect my computer to the internet again, even though he said that I could. Instead, I'm gonna get me a Mac for internet use. I know I still would be susceptible to viruses and malware, but hopefully less so.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Curtis for your wonderful advise. I will probably pick up an iMac at the Kahala Mall Apple store instead of ordering online. I like it that you said that the salespeople there will help me set it up. I'm sure they can help me with installing some kind of virus protection program. Thank you Tjet for letting me know that a new version of the iMac 21.5 inch computer should be coming out soon. I did call the Kahala store to ask them if they could tell me when it was coming out. As expected, she said that they didn't even know themselves and that I would have to keep checking apple.com. I will.
In the meantime, I hope ole Nellie here can just hang in there for a little while longer . . .

Why don't you just talk to Yosh??
Yah, wish he was here. But I'm good for now, Les.
I've had my apple laptop since 2007 and so far, I haven't had any problems. *knock on wood*. It's really a good product
Thanks Mmiissee . . . good to know!
is Cowabunga expensive? My computer broke a while back and I wanted to see if the pictures is recoverable before I throw it away.
Mmissee, I just talked to Isi at Cowabunga about your problem. He said to bring your computer in for a free diagnostic testing. Then they can let you know how much going cost to recover your pictures. Pretty cool, yah! The number is 949-6888. Ask for Isi.
Jalna- thank you for your help. Your the best!
Welcome Mmiissee!
howzit jalna; yeah, computer problems suck big time. i would definitely recommend paying for a solid anti-virus program; after trying a bunch, my vote goes to kaspersky. http://usa.kaspersky.com/?domain=kaspersky.com i bought a plan for my pc and my mac so they've got both platforms covered. reasonably priced. the other "must" is an external hard drive. fortunately, prices for external hard drives are really cheap! and knowing how many pictures you have (especially when you shoot raw), you gatta have a solid external hard drive to back up and protect your stuff! i'm glad cowabunga is providing good service to you but if you should look elsewhere, i'd recommend these guys: http://www.digitalvaultconsulting.com/
ps: you're gonna love your new mac!
Thank you so much Rand!
