From Backpack to Tote

I bought this backpack at a garage sale a few months ago.  It looked in good shape and was selling for only $1 or $2 so I got it.

I actually forgot about it until last week.  I found it in the closet and thought . . . hmmmmmm . . . how can I refurbish this?  I studied it.

Hmmmmm. I even took it to work with me so that I could study it while I worked.  Hmmmm. A plan was forming.

This is what I did.

My sewing machine could barely handle the thick canvas-type material so the stitching is not that nice looking. I even had to go back and forth in some of the thicker areas to make sure that it was reinforced well. And the handles are small-kine uneven.

I do like the pink lining.

I turned the top flap portion into a separate pouch.

Anybody want um? I washed um. Let me know. First person can have it.  JalnaA@aol.com

I'll update this post if/when it goes. UPDATE:  I have a taker!! I'm so happy!

You are a sewing genius!!! I am blown away!!! And here I was patting myself on my back just for shortening a sleeve. Now you're making me want to go to a garage sale.

Thanks Kay, but I'm no sewing genius. I only do simple-kine stitching. Garage sale shopping is fun. There's kinda an art to it. Your eyes need to see through the "junk" to spot the treasure. And you need to be persistent and not be discouraged.

Good job of turning lemonade into ambrosia! I LOVE garage sales and "junk" piles too, but I have too many things piling up and I AM in a gotta-get-rid-of-stuff mode right now. So much so that I can't get to my work area/sewing machine.

Congrats to the lucky (and fast!) winnah!

Now you need to open up "Aunties Seamstress Shop"....!

How to take heny kine garage sale junk kine stuffs, and turn 'em into one sewing machine masterpiece! And how to re~use~recycle!

Sales and sewing classes! That would be so fun! You would make da local news!

Din on da side next door you have your Auntie and Uncle Local Kine Grindz Kitchen! They come for the sewing and stay for da Grindz!

I could be your promoter! ; )
