Mr. Mandoo

I've been hearing a lot about Mr. Mandoo lately, and my sister Didi happened to mention it to me again today while I was in the area, so I dropped by. I can't decide if I should call it a Mandoopua or a Manadoo, but that's exactly what they sell . . . a steamed manapua (the bread part is really good) with mandoo filling.

They have four different varieties, but except for the kim chee one, they kinda seemed the same to me with only varying sauces.
It was good . . . go check it out. It's on Piikoi between Kona and Ala Moana Boulevard: 436A Piikoi Street, ph: 589-0555.

Shingon Shu Bon Dance

This is a very short 30 second clip of my first attempt at video with my camera.

Erick, my high definition attempts play back weird . . . kinda skips. Dunno what I'm doing wrong.

Dennis' Oven-Dried Tako

Lordy, lordy, lordy, what do do, what to do? I once deleted a post. It was a photo of some cherries on a black sweater. They were only cherries for Christsake, but I got nervous about its sexual implications so I decided to delete it. Yet after that I did post some pictures of a few scantily clad beautiful women doing yoga. I left that on.

And now I have a photo of Dennis' oven-dried tako in all its provocative risqueness that I'd like to share because it shows how he cuts up the tako to bake. So here it is folks . . . it's just tako.

Tysha's Edamame Rice

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TYSHA!!! Tysha is one of my favorite people at work. I just love her, and today is her birthday. I thought it appropriate to do this post today. Tysha brought this rice dish for after our football game a few months back, and it was soooo ono.

Unlike sushi rice, the taste is very subtle so I like to put plenty furikake on my serving.
This is all you need . . . just my style of cooking.
I turned the jars around for this shot so you can see what to buy.
You mix the seasoned mushrooms and soy beans into the rice . . .
and add the furikake just before you eat.
Leslie dropped off some cupcakes for Tysha's birthday. They were S'mores Cupcakes . . . you know they were excellent . . . but that's for another post.

Easy Party Favor

All you really need to make this party favor is double-sided scotch tape and your favorite 4 x6 inch photo. I'm using a photo of a mural done by 808 Urban.

Put scotch tape near the top, bottom and side edges like this.
Stick the side edges together to form a roll.
With the side seam centered in the middle, pinch the top edge together.
The top is now sealed.
Put some candy inside. I didn't have any candy, so I put some coins instead.
Now pinch the bottom edges together in the opposite direction from the top so that the side seam is on one end instead of centered in the middle.
This is more or less it, unless you have . . .
one of these corrugated crimping doomahitchi things.
Then you can crimp both top and bottom edges just a little.
So that it looks like this.
Pretty neat, hah!

More Dessert from the Hale Koa Buffet

Remiss - adj. negligent; lax in attending to duty. Awhile back SOME WOMAN from another doctor's office called me to complain that I had been REMISS because she claimed I neglected to do something. I didn't even know what that meant so I had to look it up after I hung up the phone with her.

Anyway, I LOVE dessert so much that usually at a buffet I'll eat my dessert first. The dessert at the Hale Koa buffet at Kevin and Wendy's reception yesterday was just so exceptional that I would be REMISS if I didn't include all of the pictures that I took of them. I already posted two photos on yesterday's blog. Here are the rest.

Kevin and Wendy Reception at the Hale Koa - 8/1/2009

Kevin and Wendy actually got married last week in Boston. They held a reception here at the Hale Koa today, and I went to help Erick with the picture taking. It was a pleasure meeting this sweet couple and their families. Kevin's dad and Erick are active members of the Eyes of Hawaii Photography Club. I'm a member too, but not so active . . . I still nevah go to one meeting yet.

Geralyn Camarillo

OH . . . MY . . . GAWWWD, I MET GERALYN CAMARILLO of Hokuli'i Images today!!! She was only selected as the Best Wedding Photographer for 2009 by Honolulu Magazine. Talk about star-struck . . . I kinda don't remember what I said to her, but I do remember that she was just so, so, so, so nice.

I've been following her blog for some time now, and awhile back I copied a shoot that she did at the Maryknoll Community Center construction wall. She called her post Skittles Sunday.

Erick, Geralyn and me.
