I tried making Cleta's Baked Tofu Thing and failed. The taste was good, but the texture was like cardboard.
It started with my not being able to "shave" off thin strips with a potato peeler. So I cut the tofu with a knife as thinly as I could instead. But it must not have been thin enough. Baking time was more than 40 minutes which is double the required amount of time.
Landon was kind when he tasted it. All he said was, "Strange." 😂

Landon...LOL
I wonder if can make with medium firm tofu instead of extra firm, might be harder to "peel." Plus, I have a Japanese cabbage slicer that makes pretty thin slices. I going try!

Dog treats? (I made biscuits one time but the baking powder or soda was expired, so they didn't rise and were hard. My Golden didn't even want them.) Linda in Kansas
Sorry to hear about this. Can't win them all, right?
Thank you for testing this because you know what? I don't think I could ever shave tofu with my veggie peeler either...! They must have a crazy sharp peeler...
I was going buy the tofu and try, but wanted to know how yours turned out first. I think maybe I better not try, because I am hesitant about using a potato peeler on the tofu and would probably end up doing what you did. LOL
At least the flavor was good. 😊

aw bummer, wonder if you used a mandoline would be easier to shave? or maybe gotta press out the water even if recipe says no need to…at least it tasted good
J, looks like won ton chips which are yummy, but no I guess. Hmm what if you froze it before peeling? It has high water content, quickly defrosts. Love Landon's kind remark lol -N
😂
Good luck!!
Funny!
Yup!
Yah, I couldn't cut through at all.
Had good flavor. Too bad mine wasn't edible. 🤣
I did try pressing some of the water out, but it just wasn't dense enough for my peeler to cut through.
Freezing . . . hmmmm . . . but nah, I quit already.
Me too! I didn't press the tofu but I thought it might work if I pressed
it. I ended up just crumbling it and baked it and then sprinkled it on my
salad- still tasted good. Too bad- I was looking forward to it!
So smart to put on your salad.
i just saw a facebook post where they totally mushed up the tofu into a paste and spread it on parchment on cookie sheet as thin and even as possible, sprinkled little salt, paprika, garlic powder and furikake then baked 300 for 40 minutes until crisp
